Bengals Take Care of Eagles on Senior Day, 6-1

POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State men's tennis team held their senior day game in Reed Gym Friday morning, as the Bengals hosted the Eastern Washington Eagles in their final regular season match of the season.

Beginning in the doubles matches, the first duo for ISU, playing in the #1 doubles spot, was Victor Sklenka and Valentino De Pellegrin, who would fall to Waddock/Krammerer 4-6. In the #2 doubles match, Wikus Robbertse and Andreas Kramer would get it done in the clutch, defeating Dalos/Dillon, 6-4. In the #3 doubles match, Ege Cankus and Hiroki Fujita battled for the Bengals, but would be unable to come through, falling to EWU's Thomas/Bhatti 5-7. Giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead heading into the singles matches.

Heading into singles play ISU knew they would need to pick it up if they were to get the win on senior day, and they did just that. As Idaho State would sweep the Eagles in the singles matches. In the #2 singles match Victor Sklenka would defeat C. Krammerer following Krammerer retiring due to injury after Sklenka took the first set 6-3. In the #1 singles match Valentino De Pellegrin would bring home the win over T. Waddock, 6-2, 6-2, and Patrick Kristensen would earn a 6-4, 7-6 (11-9) win over D. Dillon in the #3 singles spot. In the #4 singles match Hiroki Fujita would defeat T. Dalos 6-4, 6-1, in the #5 singles match Wikus Robbertse would down A. Bhatti with ease, 6-0, 6-2, and to round out singles play Ege Cankus would defeat E. Slarvik 6-0, 6-0 to give the Bengals a 6-1 win over Eastern Washington.

Following the win, Idaho State improves to 13-9 overall and 5-3 in Big Sky Conference play.

Head coach Oliver Good shared these remarks following the team's senior day, "It was a great performance from our whole team on senior day today. Eastern is extremely well coached and they got us in the doubles, however our guys responded with some great performances in singles.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support our seniors in their final home match, and for the support at all season.

Our five seniors have all made great contributions to Idaho State Men's Tennis, and will always be Bengals. We now look forward to preparing well for Phoenix next week"

The Bengals will head to Phoenix, Arizona next week and take part in the Big Sky Conference Championships. The Bengals look to secure a top 3 seed in the tournament, barring Montana's result versus Montana State on Sunday.
