POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State volleyball team finished up their season-opening home tournament in Reed Gym, hosting Cal State Northridge, San Diego State, and Seattle U.
The Bengals opened the tournament Friday night against SDSU, falling to the Aztecs 3-0 (22-25, 23-25, 18-25).
Sadie Bluth would lead the Bengals in kills with 10, followed by
Jamie Streit with nine.
Aliyah Sopo'aga led the team in assists with 28, and on the defensive end Streit led the way with 12 digs, while
Aliyah Sopo'aga had 10.
Jaydin Watts finished with a team-high five blocks and
Sadie Bluth ended with three.
Following their first match of the tournament Idaho State would take on Seattle U on Saturday afternoon. The Bengals would bounce back in a big way, downing the Redhawks off of a reverse sweep, 3-1 (21-25, 25-13, 25-18, 25-16). Streit led the way with 17 kills, Bluth finishing with 11, and
Marci Bell with 9. True freshman,
Tana Howard, would end with a game-high 18 assists and
Aliyah Sopo'aga finished with 14. On the defensive side
Asiah Sopo'aga would snag 10 digs and true freshman,
Jenna Werbelow, would finish with nine.
Marci Bell led ISU in blocks in this one, hammering back 8 attempts, while
Tana Howard would have 6, and
Meline Robarge would have 5.
On the final day of their home tournament, Idaho State would play and go on to defeat the Cal State Northridge Matadors, 3-1 (25-17, 27-29, 25-22, 25-19). The Bengals saw a balanced offensive attack led once again by captain,
Jamie Streit, who ended with 13 kills, while
Meline Robarge and
Jaydin Watts would finish with 8 apiece.
Aliyah Sopo'aga led the Bengals with 22 assists, and
Tana Howard would contribute with 16. On defense
Jamie Streit would grab her first double-double on the season, finishing with 15 digs to go with her 13 kills.
Aliyah Sopo'aga and Jenna Webelow would each end with 9 digs.
Marci Bell,
Meline Robarge, and
Jaydin Watts would highlight a defensive onslaught, as the Bengals as a team finished this match with 25 team blocks, the 4
th most in Idaho State Volleyball history, and the most team blocks in the rally-scoring era. Bell would end the match with a team-high 14 blocks, Robarge with 10, and Watts with 9.

Idaho State volleyball returns home to the court September 5
th – 7
th as the Bengals travel to Irvine, CA for the UCI/Adidas Invitational. At this tournament the Bengals will go up against UC Irvine, the University of Portland, and Bradley University.
