GREELEY, Colorado – Despite generating a season-high 22 shots and eight corner kicks, Idaho State soccer couldn't overcome a trio of first-half goals, falling 0-3 to Northern Colorado on Friday evening at Jackson Stadium in Big Sky Conference play.
The Bengals (5-7-3, 2-3-1 Big Sky) controlled possession and outshot the Bears 22-9, including a 13-5 edge in shots on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net. The loss drops ISU to 0-3 in conference road matches this season.
Northern Colorado (3-8-5, 2-2-1 Big Sky) capitalized on its opportunities early, scoring three goals in a 14-minute span midway through the first half. The Bears' Preslie Young opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, followed by goals from Samantha Carter (30') and Maria Armatas (37').
Idaho State pushed hard to respond, firing 11 shots in each half and peppering the Northern Colorado goalkeeper, Kaya Lindberg, who finished with a career-high 13 saves. Saydree Cooke led all players with eight shots, five on frame, while Samantha Fenske and Paige Harris added multiple looks each. Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Wieler finished with two saves for ISU.
Despite the result, the Bengals showed offensive aggression throughout the match. All 17 field players who entered the game contributed to ISU's relentless pressure in the attacking third, but Lindberg and the Northern Colorado defense repeatedly denied scoring chances.
