Idaho State Falls to Utah Tech, 0-5

POCATELLO, Idaho - Idaho State faced Utah Tech on Sunday afternoon at David Field, falling 0-5 to the team ranked second in the Big Sky. Both teams competed in a physical battle despite the rain and cold which created wet, slick conditions on the field.

Utah Tech came out attacking with Jocelyn Wright taking a shot for the Trailblazers just 31 seconds into the game, followed by a shot from Lataya Brost at 1:58. Idaho State answered with shots of their own in the 3rd, 4th, and 6th minutes of the game taken by Laura Gabona, Syleena Hogan, and Stephanie Roper.

The Trailblazers were struggling to put shots on goal, until Wright found the back of the net at 16:44 for their first goal of the night, quickly followed by their second from Ella Rusick at 19:19. The Bengals put four shots on goal in the first half but all attempts were stopped by Utah Tech goalkeeper Emma McIff.

Idaho State continued to generate offensive attacks, taking eight more shots and four corner kicks in the first half, but were unable to score.

Both teams started off strong in the second half, with Utah Tech taking three shots back to back in the 47th and 48th minutes and Idaho State answering with their own three consecutive shots in the 49th - 51st minutes. The Bengals continued to attack, taking three more shots off of two corner kicks at 50:48 and 52:30.

After taking multiple Bengal advances the Trailblazers took back control with Brost and Wright adding a goal each in the 55th and 62nd minutes. Ava Talaeai scored the last goal for Utah Tech at 89:27 on a penalty kick.

Idaho State finished the game with an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks and a disadvantage in shots, 21-26 and shots on goal, 6-14.
