MOSCOW, Idaho - Idaho State continued their Big Sky Conference play on the road, falling 0-3 against Idaho in a very physical matchup.
Both teams came into the game with a 0-0-1 conference record following their first Big Sky matchups, with Idaho State battling Eastern Washington to a scoreless draw and Idaho battling Weber State in a 1-1 draw.
The Bengals faced a disadvantage in shots 24-3, shots on goal, 10-1, and corner kicks 12-0 against the Vandals. This marks the lowest single match shot total Idaho State has recorded this season.
Idaho started off strong, with Halle Prinos-Grumbach scoring just 48 seconds into the match. The Vandals continued their offensive attack with 15 shots in the first half, including a goal each for Georgia Whitehead in the 19th minute and Makenna Stuart in the 27th minute. Samantha Fenske had the lone shot attempt for the Bengals in the first, at the 25:09 mark.
The Bengals struggled to pass the midfield mark in the first half, but put in a solid defensive effort, hustling between defenders and deflecting several shot attempts, particularly from the Vandals corner kicks.
The Bengals improved on both ends of the field in the second half, holding Idaho scoreless and allowing fewer shots. They also contained more control over the ball and were able to generate more attempts at offensive opportunities.
Aliya Garrett tied her season high with seven saves and played all 90 minutes in goal. Daphne Egelhoff also played all 90 minutes and had the Bengals' lone shot on goal, giving Vandals goalkeeper Claire Manis her first career save.
Defensively, Sofia Wolf, Gracie East, and Syleena Hogan made great efforts to apply pressure and fight through contact. East and Wolf in particular blocked and deflected several shots that could've added to the Vandals lead.
The result of this game moves Idaho State to 2-6-3 overall and 0-1-1 early in conference play. Idaho moves to 7-2-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the Big Sky.
