Cam Flabel

Cameron Flabel joined the Idaho State men’s basketball staff in May 2026 as an Assistant
Coach and currently serves as Assistant Coach and Director of Player Personnel.

In his role with the Bengals, Flabel oversees recruiting and personnel efforts while assisting with
the team’s defense, rebounding, scouting and player development. He also contributes to Idaho
State’s use of analytics, including self-scouting, efficiency analysis and points-per-possession
evaluation.

Flabel returned to his home state following five seasons at Hawai‘i Pacific University, where he
rose from graduate assistant to assistant coach and ultimately associate head coach.

During his five seasons in Honolulu, Flabel played an integral role in a dramatic turnaround of
the Hawai‘i Pacific program. The Sharks won just five games during his first season before
steadily developing into a contender in the West Region. The turnaround culminated in 2025-26,
when HPU finished 18-12, earned an at-large berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament,
recorded two wins over Top 25 opponents and defeated Boise State, 79-78, at ExtraMile Arena.
The NCAA Tournament appearance was Hawai‘i Pacific’s first since 2017 and just the third in
program history.

Flabel’s primary responsibilities at HPU centered around recruiting, defensive strategy and
program operations. He helped oversee the Sharks’ defense and rebounding efforts while
playing a major role in identifying and recruiting student-athletes to Hawai‘i.

In 2024-25, HPU ranked No. 1 in the PacWest Conference in defensive rebounding and held
Fresno Pacific to 46 points in one of the league’s top defensive performances of the season.
Flabel also played an extensive role in program logistics, helping coordinate team travel,
recruiting travel, scheduling and day-to-day operations for a program based in Hawai‘i.

Throughout his tenure, Flabel helped recruit and develop numerous All-PacWest performers
and multiple all-region selections. In his final season, Joshua West earned First Team
All-PacWest and Second Team All-West Region honors, while Quentin Meza was named
Second Team All-PacWest.

HPU also set new academic standards during Flabel’s tenure, breaking the program record for
team GPA four times in five seasons and eventually posting a program-record 3.72 GPA. In
2024-25, men’s basketball recorded the highest team GPA of any athletic program at Hawai‘i
Pacific.

Flabel also oversaw the program’s community service efforts, which earned national recognition
as the NCAA Division II national runner-up for community engagement in 2024.

Flabel was promoted to associate head coach in 2024 and was the youngest associate head
coach in college basketball at the time.

A Boise, Idaho native, Flabel earned bachelor’s degrees in Marketing and Management from
Idaho State University and later earned a master’s degree in Sports Management from
American Public University.
