Jared Phay comes to Pocatello as the Associate Head Coach. He joins the Idaho State men’s basketball coaching staff with 15 years of head coaching experience. Phay was the head coach at College of Southern Idaho for the last five years.
Over his five years at CSI, Phay led the Golden Eagles to a 136-33 record. During the 2018-19 season, CSI finished with a 24-8 record. In the 2017-18 season, Phay led the team to a second place finish at the NJCAA national tournament. The 2014-15 season concluded with a 31-3 record, a Scenic West Athletic Conference Championship, a Region 18 Championship, as well as a district championship.
Along with athletic success, Phay’s teams have a reputation for academic excellence. During his tenure, CSI had the seventh-best GPA in 2014-15 and the second-highest GPA in 2016-17.
Before his impressive career at CSI, Phay was the head coach at North Idaho for 10 years. He was named Region 18 Coach of the Year three times. In 2006, 2009, and 2010, Phay led his team to win the Scenic West Athletic Conference Championships.
During his last seven years as head coach, the Cardinals posted 20 wins or more and has 221 career wins. In the 2010-11 season, Phay led North Idaho to their first even No. 1 national ranking in school history from Nov. 23, 2010 to Jan. 4, 2011.
A Post Falls, Idaho native, Phay graduated from North Idaho College before earning bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Idaho in physical education. He is married to Tamara Phay, who teaches at Washington Elementary. They have three children - Carson, Makenzie and Colton.
