Joe White

Joe White concluded his second year as Associate Head Coach, and sixth year overall as an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for Idaho State men’s basketball. White was hired by Ryan Looney in 2019. Since his hiring in Pocatello, White has been honored as one of the top-100 Rising Stars in Men's Basketball Mid-Major Assistant Coaches, top-75 Most Impactful Mid-Major Assistant Coach, and twice honored as one of the top-50 Most Impactful Low-Major Division 1 Men's Basketball Assistant Coaches in America by Silver Waves Media. 

While at Idaho State, White has been instrumental in assisting the Bengals to three of the top finishes ISU has had in the last 20+ years. White most recently helped guide the 2024-25 Bengals to their second top-4 finish in the last 4 seasons, which is the third time the Bengals have finished in the top half of the Big Sky Conference standings since his arrival in Pocatello.

White has continued to help produce all-conference honorees and improvement. The 2024-25 season was highlighted by the most combined individual awards and All-Conference honors Idaho State has ever seen. ISU would total 6 accolades and honors, led by Conference MVP, Newcomer of the Year, and one of two players voted unanimously to the All-Conference First Team, Dylan Darling. The other Bengals receiving recognition were, Big Sky Freshman of the Year, Evan Otten, and Jake O'Neil earning All-Conference Honorable Mention & All-Conference Defensive Team honors. The Bengals exceeded expectations during the 2024-25 campaign, after being picked to finish 8th in the preseason polls, ISU's fourth-place finish earned them just their 3rd first-round bye in the Big Sky Tournament since 2015-16. In 2023-24, Brayden Parker and Maleek Arington both earned All-Conference honors, highlighted by Brayden Parker being named First Team All-Conference. Also in 2023-24 Miguel Tomley was named to the All-Tournament team as well as setting the Idaho State Single-Season three-pointer's made record, with 85 3PM. In 2022-23, Brayden Parker and Brock Mackenzie both earned All-Big Sky honors.

In the 2021-22 season while White was appointed acting head coach for Idaho State University the Bengals defeated rivals, the Idaho Vandals, 81-74 on January 15th at home, marking coach White's first victory as a Division 1 head coach. 

In 2020-21, White helped the Bengals to their first winning season in five years, seeing a five-game win increase from year one to year two for the Bengals. After being picked to finish 10th in the preseason poll, the Bengals finished fourth and secured a first round bye in the Big Sky Tournament, their first bye since 2015-16.

In 2021, Tarik Cool, Robert Ford III and Brayden Parker earned all-conference honors. This marks the first time since the 1977-78 season that three Bengals have been honored with all-conference recognition.

As the academic liaison for the team, White has helped take the Bengals to new heights, highlighted by a 3.49 team GPA in the fall semester of 2022-23. The Bengals were recognized as the 2022-23 Big Sky Academic Champions, for earning the highest team GPA out of all of the men's basketball teams in the Big Sky Conference. 

In White's first seven years of collegiate coaching, he saw win increases every season with the teams he coached. Idaho State is the third program that has seen a marked increase in wins from year one of White's coaching to year two including Idaho State's first tournament victory in 10 years with their win over Northern Arizona in 2019-20.

In 2020-21, White helped the Bengals to one of the best defenses in the NCAA. At the end of the season, ISU ranked No. 1 in the Big Sky Conference and No. 9 in Division I in defensive stats holding opponents to 61.7 ppg. The Bengals also ranked #1 in defensive field goal percentage and No. 1 in defensive rebounding in the Big Sky.
 
In addition to on-court coaching, White's duties at Idaho State consist of, but are not limited to; Defensive Coordinator, Recruiting Coordinator, Academics, Game Scheduling, Player Development, Fundraising, and Creating & Presenting Scouting Reports.

In 2018-19, White was promoted to the head coach at Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon. White led his Lane Titans team to a 27-4 record, Southern Region Championship, and a 3rd place finish in the NWAC Tournament. 

In  2017-18 White joined the Lane CC staff as an assistant coach, that year was highlighted by the play of Kylor Kelley who went on to play at Oregon State. Kylor most recently spent the 2024-25 with the Dallas Mavericks. Before that, White worked at Tacoma Community College as an assistant coach.

In White’s third and final season at Tacoma Community College, he helped lead the Titans to the NWAC championship game.

In his five years in the NWAC, White was responsible for recruiting one MVP, one DPOY, and a total of eight all-conference players.

From 2008-12, White played at Southern Oregon University and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. In 2010, he played a season professionally for Club La Salle of Guayaquil, Ecuador.

He was born in San Diego, California and raised in Lost Creek, Oregon.

White earned his Master's Degree of Physical Education - Athletic Administration from Idaho State University in 2023.

He is married to Sidra White and the two have a son named Champ, a daughter named Winnie, and a dog named Hooper.
