Mike Brown

Mike Brown begins his second season with the Bengal basketball program as an assistant basketball coach. Mike will assist in all facets of on and off the court coaching, including working on advance scouting, recruiting, and player development. Brown began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant at Division III Bowdoin College in Maine in 2006-07. While at Bowdoin working under Tim Gilbride, he helped the Polar Bears to a 15-10 record, their fourth consecutive winning season, and a berth in the NESCAC Tournament. Brown has quite an extensive basketball background, starting in college, where he played for the Providence College Friars. In 2004 he led them to the 1994 BIG EAST Championship. A four-year letter-winner and a two-time captain, Brown ranks fourth at Providence with 104 career starts, and he is 21st on the all-time Providence scoring list with 1,163 points. In addition his 359 assists ranks 12th for the Friars. Brown also received numerous team awards during his Providence career. As a senior, he earned the Jimmy Walker Most Valuable Player Award and the Marvin Barnes Defensive Player of the Year Award. He also was a two-time recipient of the Lenny Wilkens Hustle Award. As a senior, he received the school's most prestigious honor, the Mal Brown Award, which is given to the Providence senior athlete who best personifies the ideals of sportsmanship, courage, and honor. Brown also played in Greece and England. He played for two years with AGE Halkidas of the A2 Division, where he earned All-Bosman honors after leading his team to the championship and a 20-6 record. From 1999-04, he played with the Brighton Bears in the British Basketball League, and helped them win the BBL 2003-04 championship after a 30-6 season. Brown has also played with the Milton Keynes Lions and the Manchester Giants. In addition, he traveled to China and played for Jilian in the summer of 1996. Brown has extensive experience with some of the top coaches in basketball, having worked alongside Rick Barnes, Pete Gillen Larry Shyatt, Dennis Felton and Dave Gavitt, among others. A native of Central New York and a graduate of Cicero-North Syracuse High School, Brown earned his degree from Providence College in 1996 in Accountancy. Mike and his fiance Stephanie Pelletier will get married in June of 2009.
