Tim Nolan

Timothy Nolan enters his first season as an Assistant Coach for Idaho State men’s basketball in
2026-27, rejoining Ryan Looney’s staff after previously serving as a graduate assistant for the
Bengals. Nolan brings a strong background in scouting, analytics, player development, and
basketball operations, with experience at the Junior College, NAIA, Division 1, and professional
levels.

Since returning to Pocatello in May of 2026, Nolan will serve as the program’s Director of
Scouting, overseeing opponent preparation, film and scouting operations, and defensive game
planning. He is also responsible for tracking player efficiency and utilizing advanced analytics to
assist with game planning and player development, while contributing to the Bengals’ offensive
rebounding strategy. Nolan’s analytical approach and attention to detail have made him a key
part of Idaho State’s preparation and day-to-day basketball operations.

Prior to returning to Idaho State, Nolan spent the 2025-26 season at Montana Western, helping
lead the Bulldogs to a 20-9 record and a ranking in the NAIA Top 25. During his time in Dillon,
Nolan worked closely with a talented roster that produced multiple all-conference honorees,
including Kyle Gruhler, who earned First Team All-Conference honors, was named Conference
Player of the Week eight times and received NAIA National Player of the Week recognition.
Emanuel Steward also earned First Team All-Conference honors.

Nolan previously spent time with the Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the
Charlotte Hornets, serving as a Team Operations Attendant. During his time with the Swarm, the
franchise earned its first postseason berth in team history. Nolan also directed the Future
Basketball Stars K-12 youth program throughout the Greensboro area, providing basketball
opportunities and programming for young athletes in the community.

Before joining the Greensboro Swarm, Nolan served as a graduate assistant under Looney at
Idaho State from 2022-24. He coordinated men's basketball team operations, assisted with
scouting reports, and served as the director of the program’s youth camps. Nolan also played a
role in the development of All-Big Sky center Brayden Parker and helped the Bengals reach the
Big Sky Tournament Semi-Finals for the first time in 15 years.

Nolan came to Pocatello from the University of Wyoming, where he served as the head student
manager for the Cowboys from 2019-22. In that role, he assisted with on-court workouts and
served as Wyoming’s ShotTracker specialist, overseeing in-game and practice analytics. During
his time in Laramie, the Cowboys earned an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2022.

Nolan got his start in collegiate basketball at Casper College during the 2018-19 season, serving
as a student assistant for the Thunderbirds. He helped Casper College capture the Region IX
Championship and advance to the NJCAA National Tournament.

Originally from Casper, Wyoming, Nolan earned his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education
from the University of Wyoming in 2022 and his master’s degree in Athletic Administration
from Idaho State University in 2024.
