Idaho State (2025) Indoor and outdoor: Redshirted Season

Idaho State Outdoor (2024): Opened the year at the Stanford Invitational finishing 2nd in discus (03/30/24)... competed at the Weber State Spring Classic, Pacific Coast Invitational, and the Beach Invitational… earned a personal best in hammer throw (54.11m/177’ 6”) and secured a 3rd place finish at the Aggie Invitational (04/20/24)... placed 1st in discus at the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship (05/11/24)... ended his season throwing discus in the preliminary NCAA West First Round (05/25/24)... awarded the team's 2023-24 Bennion Outstanding Field Performer Award.

Idaho State Indoor (2023-24): Threw in six meets… all were in weight throw and shot put and ALL were top-ten finishes… opened the year finishing 1st in weight throw at the Snake River Open (01/12/24)... at the Mtn States Games finished 7th in shot put and secured 1st place in weight throw (19.09m/62’ 7.75”) while throwing a personal best (02/10/24)... ended his season placing 8th in shot put and 4th in weight throw at the Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Championship (02/24/24)... awarded the 2023-24 Bennion Outstanding Field Performer Award… named to the Big Sky Winter All-Academic Team.

Idaho State Outdoor (2023): Competed in 11 meets… placed 9th in discus at the 95th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays (04/01/23)... threw in the Utah-WSU Spring Classic, Pacific Coast Invitational, and Beach Invitational… threw in three events at the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track Meeting - hammer throw (12th), shot put (5th), and discus ((1st) - 69.41m/198’ 2”) with a personal best throw (05/13/23)... ended the year throwing discus at the NCAA West Preliminary Round (05/27/23)... No. 10 on the Idaho State Top-Ten Performance List for Hammer Throw (174’ 8”)... No. 7 on the Idaho State Top-Ten Performance List for Shot Put (56’ 0.5”)... broke his original record and is now No. 1 on the Idaho State Top-Ten Performance List for Dicus (198’ 2”)... tied No. 5 on the Big Sky All Time Top-Ten Performance List for Discus (198’ 2”)... named to the Big Sky Spring All-Academic Team.

Idaho State Indoor (2022-23): One of his best seasons for the Bengals… started out placing 2nd in shot put and 1st in weight throw at the BYU Cougar Indoor Invitational (01/14/23)... at the Stacy Dragila Open he placed 2nd in shot put and 1st in weight throw (01/28/23)... threw a personal best in shot put (17.28m/ 56’ 8.5”) at the Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Championships to help land a 4th place finish (02/25/23)... No. 6 on the Idaho State Top-Ten Performance List for Shot Put (56’ 8.5”)... No. 1 on the Idaho State Top-Ten Performance List for Weight Throw (62’ 7.75”)... named to the Big Sky Winter All-Academic Team.

Idaho State Outdoor (2022): Had a hot start placing 6th in hammer throw, 2nd in shot put, and 2nd in discus at the UVU Collegiate Invitational (04/01/22)... competed at the Pacific Coast Invitational, Beach Invitational and BYU Robison Invitational… finished 9th in shot put and 2nd in discus at the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships (05/14/22)... ended his season throwing discus at the NCAA West Preliminary Round (05/28/24)...  set his name in the Idaho State Top-Ten Performance List for Discus (185’ 6”)... named to the Big Sky Spring All-Academic Team.

Idaho State Indoor (2021-22): Competed in shot put and weight throw in six meets for the Bengals… opened his collegiate career placing 6th in weight throw and 4th in shot put at the Snake River Open (01/15/22)... has a par of top-ten finishes at the Bobcat Performance placing 6th in shot put and 5th in weight throw (01/21/22)... finished the competing at the Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships (02/26/22)... named to the Big Sky Winter All-Academic Team.

Emmett High School: Shot Put State Champion 

Personal: Axel is the son of Patricia Sanchez and Fernando Tirado. Axel is the middle child between two brothers, Alan and Cristian. His favorite show to watch is SpongeBob SquarePants.
