Camille Long joins the Idaho State University Track & Field program as a part-time assistant coach, where she primarily works with the sprints.
Long brings more than a decade of coaching experience at the high school level, including 10 years as the Head Track & Field Coach at Highland High School in Pocatello, Idaho. Under her leadership, Highland athletes broke 26 of the program’s 40 school records, captured 8 individual state championships, numerous district titles, and earned Academic State Champion honors on the boys’ or girls’ side in each of her 10 seasons. The program also won four girls’ team district championships, including three consecutive titles. She was named District 5 6A Girls coach of the year each of those years.
Outside of her career at Highland, Long has spent several years working alongside and learning from decorated Olympic athletes at the Simplot Track Camp that was formerly hosted on ISU’s campus. She has also spent more than a decade helping with several summer youth track and field programs within our community.
In addition to her coaching experience, Long serves as a clinical instructor at the University in the Human Performance and Sport Studies program in the Teaching and Educational Studies Department. She teaches courses focusing on sport management, coaching, and physical education. Her work in both the classroom and on the track reflects her commitment to developing well-rounded athletes, coaches, educators, and sport professionals.
Long’s return to Idaho State University is particularly meaningful, as she was previously a student-athlete with the program. During her time at ISU, she achieved some of the highest performances of her career, including numerous all-time performance marks at the university, setting the school record in the 55m dash, and earning an individual Big Sky Conference Championship in the indoor 200m in 2013. She was also named Idaho State’s Most Valuable Track and Field Athlete that same year. Her experience as an ISU student-athlete played a significant role in shaping her perspective on coaching, education, and athlete development.
Long is passionate about creating opportunities for athletes to grow both competitively and personally. She is excited to return to Idaho State and contribute to a program that had a lasting impact on her own life while helping provide current student-athletes with the same positive opportunities.
