Powell returns to her hometown to coach ISU track and field in throws alongside her former coach Dan Walker. She received her BS in exercise and sport science with a minor in coaching from Weber State University in 2017.
 
At the 2017 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Powell won the shot put title with a personal record, 15.34m (50-4) throw. She advanced to the NCAA Division I West Preliminary Round for the second time in her career.
 
Powell is Weber State’s record holder in the shot put (50-4), hammer throw (189-9) and weight throw (62-4.5). She secured three all-conference honors and scored six times in Big Sky Championship events.
 
At Pocatello High School, Powell earned two state championships in the shot put. She placed in the state championship each year in the shot put and twice in the discus. Powell graduated from Pocatello High in 2012.
