Idaho State Track and Field has announced the hiring of Tevin-Lloyd Thompson as an assistant coach specializing in sprints and hurdles. Thompson comes to the Bengals from Xavier University and competed in track and field at the University of Cincinnati.

"Tevin is a much-needed addition to our staff. He brings good experience and success in the sprints hurdles and relays and will be a huge asset to our students and our staff," remarked Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Hillary Merkley. "I'm excited to learn from him and have his support in these event groups."

Prior to the Bengals, Tevin-Lloyd Thompson was hired as an assistant track and field coach in February 2021 at Xavier University. He made a significant impact, with student-athletes breaking five school records and achieving over 20 top-ten Xavier all-time performances in sprints for both indoor and outdoor events.

Thompson's coaching approach is defined by core values such as finding the "why" and incorporating fun and goal-setting to achieve fulfillment. He emphasizes creating an environment of fun and passion while promoting personal growth, discipline, communication, and accountability. His primary purpose is to help athletes find fulfillment through personal growth or accolades.Â

Specializing in sprints and hurdles, Thompson has achieved notable success, including coaching an athlete to the 2024 Big East 60m finals and podium as a freshman, and guiding a walk-on freshman to the 400m finals at the Big East Conference in his first year, breaking the school record.

A native of St. Thomas, Jamaica, Thompson competed for the University of Cincinnati from 2014 to 2017, participating in the 4x100 meter relay and the 60m, 100m, and 200m dashes. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati in the fall of 2017 with a degree in Human Resource Management.
