In Candi Letts first two years as head coach at Idaho State, the Bengal softball program did not miss a beat. The Bengals lost in the Big Sky Tournament championship game in 2016 and were a game away of getting to the title in 2017.
In 2017, ISU was the sixth seed going into the conference tournament and finished third after losing in the semi-final double elimination tournament. ISU boasted the Big Sky Conference MVP in Kacie Burnett and the Newcomer of the Year in Haley Harrison. Burnett was also a finalist for the USA Softball Player of the Year award. Burnett also garnered NFCA all-region honors.
ISU was 28-23 in 2016. The Bengals boasted seven all-conference players and two players who earned NFCA All-Region accolades in Kacie Burnett and Ashlyn Ames.
Lett’s came to Idaho State with 18 years of head coaching experience at the Division I level. Lett’s most recently spent three years as the head coach at Farleigh Dickinson University. Letts also has head coaching experience at Colorado State, Ole Miss and Utah State.
Letts compiled a 60-62 (.492) record over three seasons as the head coach at FDU. She led the softball program to its first two trips to the Northeast Conference Tournament (2014, 2015) and emerged as a perennial contender in the NEC. The Knights also earned eight All-NEC selections during that span, including two first team honors following the 2015 season.
Letts reestablished the softball program at Colorado State, where she coached from 1993-98. During her time in Fort Collins her team was ranked as high as No. 9 in the nation in 1997. She developed three All-Americans, six all-region athletes and 16 All-WAC performers. She was also named the West Region Coach of the Year and the WAC Coach of the Year in 1997.
Following Letts time at CSU, she was named head coach at Ole Miss in 1998. She managed the program until 2005. During her time in Oxford, Letts coached three All-Southeastern Conference athletes and one Easton All-American. In 2005, Ole Miss set a school record that still stands for most wins in a season with 30.
Letts was the head coach at Utah State from 2006-09 before serving as the Associate Head Coach at UC Riverside from 2009-12.
Letts also has experience as an assistant coach at Western Illinois (1988), Creighton (1988-93) and Northern Illinois (2005-06).
Letts played at Creighton from 1979-83 and she led her team to three straight trips to the College World Series. In 1980 she was named to the Iowa High School Pitchers Hall of Fame and 1996 she was inducted into the Iowa Softball Hall of Fame.
