Head Coach Debs Brereton announced the hiring of Holguin as her first assistant coach in February of 2019. Holguin joins the Bengals after spending seven years as an assistant coach at the Division II West Virginia Wesleyan College.
While he was at Wesleyan, the WVWC women won eight trophies with a 98-24-22 record, including a 19-game unbeaten streak in 2018. That season the squad advanced to the NCAA DII regional finals and ended the season ranked 15th nationally.
The team finished as Mountain East Conference Regular Season Champions in 2015, 2017 and 2018; MEC Tournament Champions in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2018; and WVIAC Tournament Champions in 2012. They appeared in the NCAA DII Tournament in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018, making the second round or further each time, including the regional finals in 2014 and 2018.
As the recruiting coordinator, Holguin assembled one of the nation's best defenses. In 2018, WVWC led the nation in three defensive categories including goals against average and save percentage.
Holguin's teams at Wesleyan boasted more than 30 student-athletes earning conference academic honors each of the last three seasons. He helped develop four All-Americans and three Academic All-Americans.
Holguin also led youth programs throughout the Mountain State and served as the West Virginia Soccer Association Girls Olympic Development Program Director of Coaching. He helped build a program which saw eight players named to the East Region teams in 2018 and 2019 and two players called into the ODP National Training Center in January 2019.
He was also the U14-U17 coach of the Mountain State Soccer Club and worked several camps along the East Coast.
Holguin played collegiately at Regis University in Colorado. He earned a business degree from WVWC in 2018.
A native of Pleasanton, Calif., Holguin has four brothers and three sisters. His parents, Omar and Irene, currently reside in Keller, Texas.
