Gretchen Maloney

Gretchen Malone was named the head coach of the Idaho State Women’s Tennis program in 2015. Maloney served as an assistant coach for the women's team at Idaho State for the 2014 season and replaces her predecessor, Bobby Goeltz, as the first new head tennis coach at ISU in 25 years.

In 2024 Maloney led the program to a share of the Big Sky Regular Season Championship. They finished with a conference record of 6-2 and an overall record of 6-2. The program finished with a winning percentage of .684.

In a turnaround season for the Bengals, they finished with an overall record of 13-7 during the 2022 season. The program finished 5-3 in conference play and cliched a spot in the 2022 Big Tennis Championship where they lost in the second round of the tournament.

During the 2019 season Idaho State went 9-10 overall with a 4-6 record in the Big Sky Conference.

Maloney guided her team to a 9-13 overall record in 2018. Her squad of sophomores went 6-5 in conference play, securing their second-consecutive Big Sky tournament berth. The Botes twins, Louise-Mare and Huibre-Mare, secured All-Conference honors for the second year in a row. Louise was Second Team All-Conference and Huibre was Women's Singles Honorable Mention.

The women's tennis team also eared an APR Public Recognition Award during that season after posting a perfect 1,000 multi-year score.

In April of 2017, Maloney led a team of freshmen to the Big Sky Conference Championships for ISU’s first trip since 2004.

The growth Maloney fostered during the 2017 season was vast, and the Big Sky Conference took notice naming Maloney the Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year. It was the first time the honor was awarded to an Idaho State head coach since Bobby Goeltz received the same honor in 2003. Maloney guided a major turnaround with a roster of all freshmen after losing six seniors to graduation last season. Picked in the preseason to finish eighth, Maloney led the Bengals to one of its biggest turnarounds in school history: the Bengals finished 10-11 overall on the year with a 7-4 mark in conference play to finish fourth, and they earned their first tournament berth since 2004.

Maloney also produced two all-conference performers in 2017 in Louise-Mare Botes and Huibre-Mare Botes. The duo combined for a 20-2 singles record in Big Sky play; Louise-Mare finished undefeated in conference play to earn first team honors while Huibre-Mare collected second team honors. Louise-Mare was the first Bengal to earn first team all-conference honors since Eka Jvania and Hayli Scott did so in 2003. The twins also picked up honorable mention honors for their doubles performance.
