POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State football Head Coach
Rob Phenicie announced that
Roger Cooper has been elevated to defensive coordinator and Mike Ferriter has been hired to serve as the offensive coordinator following the departure of
Matt Troxel to Oregon State. Along with serving as the offensive coordinator, Ferriter will also coach the quarterbacks.
Roman Sapolu has been hired to coach the offensive line and
Aaron Prier will coach the tight ends. There is still one defensive coach to be hired at a later date.
This is Ferriter's second stint at Idaho State as he coached the inside wide receivers from 2012-14 before returning to his alma mater, Montana in 2015.
Ferriter coached the inside wide receivers at Montana in 2015 and 2016 and he served as the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach for this Griz in 2017.
Ferriter came to ISU in 2012 after spending two years as an offensive graduate assistant at UNLV. He was a standout receiver at Montana as he is one of only 11 Grizzly players to reach the 2,000 yards receiving plateau. Ferriter earned his bachelors degree in human biology.
Cooper just finished his sixth season at Idaho State. After coaching the running backs in 2012, he has coached the linebackers the last five seasons. He will continue to coach the linebackers in additions to his duties as defensive coordinator.
Sapolu spent three years at Nebraska as a graduate assistant working with the offensive line. Sapolu was an offensive lineman at Oregon State and graduated with his degree in liberal studies in 2014. His father, Jesse, was a member of the San Francisco 49ers from 1983 to 1997, earning four Super Bowl rings. Sapolu started his coaching career in 2014 after his senior season was cut short due to injury.
Steve Fifita will continue to coach the defensive line and
Kam Yancy will oversee the cornerbacks. On the offensive side
David Fiefia will continue to coach the running backs and special teams.
