Idaho State Men's Basketball Signs SLCC Forward Scott Henry

April 10, 2002

Pocatello, ID---Idaho State University head men's basketball coach Doug Oliver has announced that the Bengals have signed Scott Henry, a 6-7, 190-pound forward from Salt Lake City Community College to a letter-of-intent for the 2002-03 season.

Henry joins Santa Teresa High School's Derek Quinet as signees for the upcoming basketball season. Quinet is a 6-9, 235-pound forward.

Henry was Utah's 5A State Player of the Year coming out of Mountain View High School. Last season at Salt Lake City Community College he averaged 19.5 points and 6.5 rebounds for Coach Norm Parrish. He also blocked 21 shots, dished out 69 assists, grabbed 36 steals while averaging over 30 minutes per game for the 19-11 Bruins. He was a First Team All-Scenic West selection, and he finished third in MVP voting for the league. Henry attended Utah Valley State College after high school and played one season there before serving a two-year LDS Church Mission in Costa Rica.

"Scott has proven at every level of competition that he can play," said Oliver. "He is a well decorated high school performer. He was an MVP at an outstanding school. He goes into one of the nation's best junior college leagues and posts some outstanding numbers.

Added Oliver, "Scott is crafty around the basket and has a good shooting touch. He has not played a lot on the perimeter, so his perimeter stats are not dazzling, but he can play, and he will. He can play both forward spots, and he finishes plays as his 61 percent field goal shooting shows."

"I have never coached a player who scored so much and shot at such a high percentage, said Salt Lake City coach Norm Parrish. "Scott can flat score. He can score at a variety of angles and I believe that he will be an excellent Big Sky player."

Parrish also said, "We had Tim Erickson here, and he went on to have a great career at Idaho State. I believe Scott will do so as well."

Last season, Idaho State finished 10-17 on the year, and in 3-11 in the Big Sky. The Bengals have two more scholarships to fill for the 2002-2003 season.
