Pocatello, ID-Andrea Lightfoot scored a career-high 23 points and Jeni Boesel added a career-high 17 points as Idaho State routed Division II Saint Martin's 92-57 Wednesday night at Reed Gym.
The win pushes Idaho State's record to 2-3 overall, while St. Martin's falls to 2-2.
"We shot the ball well against Eastern Michigan in our last game and that carried over into tonight's game," said ISU head coach Jon Newlee. "We got in a rhythm early and we carried it the entire game."
Lightfoot connected on 8-of-13 shots from the field, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc to net her 23 points. The sophomore guard also notched three assists and three steals in 22 minutes of play. Boesel was perfect from the field, hitting all five of her shots from the field which included a career-high four three-point field goals.
"Both Andrea (Lightfoot) and Jeni (Boesel) hit their first few treys, and then got on a roll," Newlee said. "It was nice to see both of them find their shot. Both Jeni and Andrea are streaky shooters, and when they find their shot, they are very dangerous from out there."
Joanna Hixon recorded her second-straight game of at least 15 rebounds. The junior forward pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds. She was just one point shy of a double-double with nine points. Hixon also collected five assists and a steal.
"She (Hixon) has hit the boards hard for us the last couple of games," Newlee said. "It's like the light came on and it has clicked for her. She is doing it all, diving for loose balls and banging down in the paint. She's been a monster on the glass."
Three others also reached double-figures, including Natalie Doma with 13, Chelsey Chambers with 11, and Jenna Brown with 10.
As a team, ISU connected on 13-of-29 shots from three-point range. The squad also hit a season-high 50.8 percent of its shots from the field. ISU held SMC to just 31 percent shooting from the floor and 30 percent from three. The Bengals out-rebounded Saint Martin's 45-28.
After taking an early 16-8 lead, Idaho State scored 14 unanswered points to secure a 22-point lead, 30-8 halfway through the first half. ISU then continued its first half dominance, pushing the lead to 30 by halftime, 50-20.
It was more of the same in the second half as Idaho State opened the second half on a 23-2 run to push the lead to 52, 76-24. The Saints used a run toward the end of the second half to cut the lead to 35 points by the end of regulation.
Hilary Wick led Saint Martin's with a team-high 15 points and Beth Layton added 14.
Idaho State continues play this week on Friday, Dec. 2 when the team hosts cross-state rival Utah State. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m.
"Utah State will be a huge challenge for us," Newlee said. "They are a good, well-balanced team. It will be a much different game for us Friday night."
