Red Rocks Invitational: Day 1 Results Get Acrobat Reader

Sedona, AZ--- Kylie Smith shot a first round of 86 , helping the Idaho State women's golf team to a 17th-place standing after the first day of the Red Rocks Invitational at Oak Creek Country Club in Sedona, Ariz.

The Bengals collected a first-round score of 354, one shot ahead of Utah Valley. Michigan led the 18-team field with a score of 307. Host and Big Sky foe Northern Arizona was tied for third after the first round. Portland State was fifth, Montana State was tied for ninth, Montana sat in 12th.and Northern Colorado was tied for 15th.

Smith shot a 44 on the front nine and followed it with a 42 on the back nine to finish with an 86, tying her for 70th in the field. Katie Phillips and Sadie Venn had matching 88s, and were tied for 77th. Alysia Hall's 92 was good for a tie for 92nd place, and Amanda Hendricks was tied for 101st with a score of 98.

Alex Sandberg, who transferred to Idaho State over the winter break, played as an individual and shot a 92.

The second and final round takes place Sunday.
