Bengals Finish 19th At Cowgirl Classic

Cowgirl Classic: Final Combined Results Get Acrobat Reader

Chandler, AZ --- Sadie Venn shot a third-round score of 78 in the final round of the Cowgirl Classic on Tuesday at the Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz., helping the Bengals to a 19th place finish at the event. The Bengals' score of 1,020 shots was 19 behind 18th-place Southern Utah. Portland was disqualified from the event and finished 20th.

Venn had the Bengals' fourth-best score after Monday's first two rounds, but bounced back by trimming eight shots off her second-round score and 14 shots off her first-round score. She finished with 256 shots, in a tie with teammate Katie Phillips for 84th place.

Junior Kylie Smith once again led the Bengals, firing an 81-79-85 to finish with 245 shots and in a tie for 58th place. Freshman Amanda Hendricks held the Bengals' second-lowest score after Monday's action, shooting an 86 and 87 in the first two rounds, but finished with a score of 256 to tie for 96th. Ally Hall shot a 188 on the first day, and did not play on Tuesday.

Montana State's Kelly Gillum won a playoff with Northern Arizona's Bethany Leclair to win the individual title. Both women shot a 6-over 222. Northern Arizona won the team title by a single shot over Fresno State.

The Bengals' last tournament of the 2008-09 season is the Big Sky Conference Championships, to be held April 20-22 in Phoenix, Ariz.
