St. George, UT --- Idaho State University bolted out to a 3-0 first inning lead, but Cal State Bakersfield used a three-run home run to tie the game, and then pulled away in the later innings for a 6-3 win over the Bengals, dropping ISU to 4-19 on the season.

The Bengals got that 3-0 lead in the first inning with some good team play. Desirae Hoffman led the game off with a single and was sacrificed to second base, and she scored when she stole third and then scored on an error. Megan Miller then singled to left and stole second. After a strikeout, Jessica Baca reached on a fielder's choice, and Jennifer Martensen singled home Miller to make it 2-0. Courtney Darby then singled in Baca to make it 3-0, and the Bengals turned that lead over to Nora Maschue.

Maschue held Bakersfield in check until the third inning, when Ryane Peterson smacked a three-run homer to tie the game, and then one inning later, Danielle Lyman homered to give Bakersfield a 4-3 lead. ISU never threatened after the first inning, and Bakersfield tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh on a sacrifice fly and an error.

Miller and Hoffman led the way for ISU with two hits apiece, and Maschue allowed seven hits and five earned runs in her second career complete game.

Idaho State takes on BYU and UNLV tomorrow in the final day of the BYI Invitational.

NOTES: Erin Olander and Courtney Darby split time between the DP and the first base positions ... ISU outhit Bakersfield 8-7 ... Cal State Bakersfield is a fellow conference member of the Pacific Coast Softball Conference, but they are members of the Pacific Division.
