Final Stats
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior guard Chelsea Pickering's seven three-pointers gave Idaho State (11-4, 2-0 BSC) the edge in a 76-51 victory over Sacramento State (3-14, 0-4 BSC) on Saturday at the Hornets Nest. Pickering recorded a game-high 22 points where she was 7-of-8 from the arc and 1-of-2 from the line.
“She couldn't miss: its confidence, she was really confident. They didn't guard her very well out on the three point line so she knocked down some shots. She shot it well and we've seen it before at Texas State. It's what she's capable of any given night when she's focused and playing hard,” said Head Coach Seton Sobolewski.
Pickering opened the contest with four three-pointers in the first 5:27 to help give the Bengals a 15-5 lead. Idaho State continued to keep the ball rolling shooting 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from the arc in the first period while holding Sacramento State to 22.2 percent (2-of-9). ISU held a 37-23 lead at the half.
The Bengals continued its dominance into the second half building up to its largest lead of the game at 31 points, 59-28, with 12:53 remaining. Sacramento State fought back with a 10-0 run capped by a Sami Field-Polisso three-pointer to reduce the Bengal lead to 19 points, 61-42 with 8:07 left.
ISU maintained control finishing the contest with a 25-point lead, the first 20-plus conference victory under Head Coach Sobolewski. Idaho State shot 50 percent (31-of-62) from the field while holding Sacramento State to 33.9 percent (19-of-56) from the field.
“We handled the press well and when they went into some zone we had some great shots,” said Sobolewski of what he was most pleased with about the game.
Four Bengals scored in double-figures for the eighth time this season. Cydney Horton scored a career-high 14 points hitting 7-of-10 from the field off the bench. She helped ISU's bench outscore the Hornets' bench 31-21. She also notched eight rebounds.
Freshman guard Sheryl Bitter also posted a career-high with 10 points. She was 3-of-4 from the field, 2-of-2 from the arc and 2-of-2 from the line in 16 minutes. Bitter also recorded five assists.
Lindsey Reed, a freshman guard, was one rebound shy of a double-double when she scored 10 points and recorded nine rebounds, four on offense. She also had six assists and four steals.
The Bengals improve to an eight-game win streak and a three-game road win streak. Idaho State leads the conference standings with Montana State (3-0) as both are undefeated in league play.
