Bengals Travel to 'Jacks and Bears After Home Stand

Idaho State has won seven of the last ten matches falling only in five set contests

BENGAL OVERVIEW
Idaho State (8-7, 2-2 BSC) hits the road after a five-match home stand when the Bengals play at Northern Arizona (13-2, 4-2 BSC) on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Rolle Activity Center.  Then ISU plays at Northern Colorado (11-6, 5-1 BSC) on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion.

LAST WEEK IN BENGAL VOLLEYBALL
Idaho State split its matches last week falling in five sets to Montana State and defeating Montana in four sets.  The Bengals had a slow start against the Bobcats dropping the first two sets before winning the third and fourth.  ISU's loss to Montana State that ended an MSU 24-match losing streak and a 13-match Big Sky losing streak. In addition, the Bobcat's victory was the first time in 11 matches over the Bengals dating back to 2005.  Idaho State came out with determination against Montana winning the first two sets before Montana found a groove in the third set.  Idaho State closed out the Griz with Breanne Van Every posting a double-double of a career-high 19 kills and a team-high 15 digs.

BENGAL STAND-OUT: VAN EVERY
Junior outside hitter and defensive specialist Breanne Van Every led the Bengals with back-to-back double-doubles in matches against Montana State and Montana at Reed Gym.  Van Every recorded her fifth double-double of the season with a match-high 18 kills and a career-high 21 digs.  Her match-high 18 kills is Van Every's third straight contest posting the match-high in kills.  She also had three assists, a service ace and three total blocks; including a solo effort.  Van Every recorded her sixth double-double of the season with a career-high 19 kills and a team-high 15 digs while maintaining a .306 attack percentage.  She had 19 kills from a match-high 49 attempts with just four errors.  She also had two assists and two block assists.  She averaged 4.11 kills per set and 4.00 digs per set over the two matches and maintained a .234 attack percentage and recorded five assists, a service ace and five total blocks.

MENDENHALL'S DOUBLE-DOUBLE STREAK ENDS ONE DIG SHY
Sophomore setter Lori Mendenhall leads the Bengals in double-doubles with eight double-doubles.  Mendenhall had a three-match double-double streak against Utah Valley, Sacramento State and Montana State and was one dig shy of her fourth straight against Montana.  Mendenhall has the third most double-doubles in the Big Sky.

GORNY/HYTE CONNECTION
There is a Bermuda triangle like connection between the assistant coach of Idaho State and Northern Arizona.  Assistant Coach Ali Gorny's brother Chris Gorny is the assistant coach for the Lumberjacks.  Ali graduated from Idaho State in 2005 while Chris graduated from Brigham Young in 2004.  Chris played on the men's volleyball team with Idaho State Assistant Coach David Hyte in 2004.

ABOUT THE BENGALS
Idaho State is sixth in the league with a 3-3 Big Sky record.  Idaho State has won seven of its last 10 games falling only in five set matches.  The Bengals are 4-1 in four set matches.  ISU is led in kills per set by junior outside hitter Breanne Van Every who averages 3.48 followed by freshman outside hitter Alydia Fields with 2.22 kills per set.  Van Every is the only Bengal to have already recorded 100-plus points in league play with 106.5.  Lori Mendenhall serves as ISU's setter averaging 9.15 assists per set.  Vanessa Muir, a senior, and Whitney Bartschi, a freshman, hold the middle blocker position.  Muir leads Idaho State with 26 blocks in league action.  Redshirt freshman libero Kylee Searle leads the Bengals averaging 5.19 digs per set.  The Bengals are averaging a .145 attack percentage and are out-serving their opponents averaging 1.37 aces per set.

ABOUT NORTHERN ARIZONA
Northern Arizona is 13-2 for the season after opening the year with a 12-match win streak.  The Lumberjacks 4-2 in league play and are 1-2 in the last three matches having fallen in four sets to Portland State and three sets to Northern Colorado.  Four 'Jacks average two or more kills per set: Jen Wilson (2.83), Lexi Sullian (2.81), Sydney Kemper (2.21) and Lauren Campbell (2.00).  Kelli Dallman averages 10.33 assists per set while Anna Gott averages 5.04 digs per set in league action.

SERIES INFO AND LAST MEETING WITH LUMBERJACKS
Idaho State leads 30-26 over Northern Arizona with the Bengals having swept the 'Jacks in the last two years of competition.  In the last meeting, Idaho State defeated NAU 3-0 on the road.  The Bengals are 10-16 against the 'Jacks on the road.

ABOUT NORTHERN COLORADO
Northern Colorado is 11-6 for the season and 5-1 in league play and hosts Weber State Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. before playingthe Bengals.  Northern Colorado comes off a 3-0 sweep of Northern Arizona at home and has won six of its last eight matches.  The Bears only conference loss is a 3-0 decision at Sacramento State.  Kelley Arnold leads UNC in kills per set with 4.10 in league action.  Amanda Arterburn leads the backrow defensive effort with 5.76 digs per set in Big Sky play. 

SERIES INFO AND LAST MEETING WITH BEARS
Northern Colorado leads the Bengals 13-1 all-time since 1980.  Idaho State's only victory over the Bears was a 2-1 contest in 1982.  The Bengals are on the verge of upsetting Northern Colorado as ISU has fallen in five set matches against the Bears in the last four meetings.  ISU fell three times to UNC in five set matches including the last meeting; ISU's first Big Sky conference appearance since 2005 when ISU fell 3-2 to UNC in the semifinals of the Big Sky Conference tournament at Portland State.

BENGAL NOTEABLES
Breanne Van Every posts the second best kills per set at 3.48 in Big Sky matches.
Breanne Van Every ties Sacramento State's Eryn Kirby for consecutive double-figure kill streak at five, while Kylee Searle has the third best double-figure dig streak with 11 tying Montana State's Nicole Baker and Sacramento State's Breanne Menees.
• Kylee Searle leads Big Sky freshman in digs per set for all matches at 4.50 and for league matches at 0.37.  Lori Mendenhall leads sophomore for assists per set with 9.60 for all matches.
• Kylee Searle posts the third best digs per set at 5.19 in Big Sky matches.

VAN EVERY REACHES 1,000 CAREER ATTACKS
Breanne Van Every reached the 1,000 career attack mark against Montana when she posted a match-high 49 attacks.  Van Every has posted 1,038 kills over her career.

VAN EVERY CONTINUES TO IMPROVE
Breanne Van Every has lead the Bengals in kills per set all season currently averaging 3.33.  Not only does she lead ISU but she continues to improve her efforts.  Van Every has recorded five straight double-figure kill matches including a three-match match-high in kills against Utah Valley, Sacramento State and Montana State.  In the last four matches Van Every has recorded 15 kills, 17 kills, 18 kills and 19 kills respectively.  Van Every's 19 kills against Montana is a career-high for the Bengal and a season-high for Idaho State.  Against Montana State, the night prior to her career-high in kills, Van Every notched a career-high in digs with 21.

MENDENHALL LEADS BENGALS IN ASSISTS
Sophomore setter Lori Mendenhall leads the Bengals with 557 assists.  She has recorded a double-figure in assists in every match but ISU's season opener when she had eight assists giving Mendenhall a 16-match double-figure assist streak.  She notched a career-high 58 assists in ISU's victory over Wyoming and a season-high in assists for ISU this season.

MUIR MAKES STOPS FOR BENGALS
Senior Vanessa Muir, a middle blocker, has recorded at least one block in every match but one this season in ISU's match versus South Dakota State.  Muir recorded a season-high eight blocks at Eastern Washington including a solo effort.  Muir has recorded two solo blocks in two different matches, ISU's season opener against Tulane and against Utah Valley.  She has recorded 59 blocks this season.
