POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State (14-12, 7-7 BSC) defeated the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona (15-9, 6-9) in straight sets (26-24, 25-17, 25-22) Saturday. The win was especially special for two Bengals, senior middle blocker
Vanessa Muir and senior setter
Karissa Legaux, as it would be the last match of their careers in Pocatello.
Legaux and Muir were both major contributors for ISU during the night. Leguax recorded 46 assists during the match as well as 10 digs for a double-double. The senior also recorded four assisted blocks and two kills. Muir recorded five kills, two digs and six assisted blocks.
“College athletics went by so fast and this season in particular was a little rough for me so it feels great to finish on a good note,” Legaux said. “I can leave my volleyball world on a good memory and I'm really happy about that.”
Junior
Breanne Van Every led Idaho State with a match-high 21 kills and earned a double-double with 10 digs. She also tallied one assisted block.
Redshirt freshman
Danielle Downs also recorded a double-double in the match with 10 kills and 16 digs. Downs also recorded one service ace.
Freshmen outside hitters Whitney Bartschi and Alydia Fields also chipped in with Bartschi tabbing eight kills and Fields recording six.
As a team, Idaho State boasted a .243 attack percentage and outblocked Northern Arizona 8-7. Idaho State held NAU to an attack percentage of just .110.
All three sets were extremely competitive with 17 total tied scores for the set and eight lead changes. In the first set alone, ISU and NAU tied eight times and changed leads twice. The second set was a tight battle to the end score of 25-17. In the third set the scored tied seven times and there were five lead changes before ISU won the set 25-22.
Idaho State finishes out the regular season with road trips to Montana and Montana State. Idaho faces Montana Friday, Nov. 18 and Montana State, Saturday, Nov. 19. Both matches begin at 7 p.m. MST.
“We have the Montana schools on the road next and we're hoping to win those two and that Sacramento State loses so that we can go to the Big Sky Tournament,” Legaux said. “It's a lot of crossing our fingers but I think we can get our wins.”
