ISU Wraps Up 2011 Season Against Montana, Montana State

The Bengals travel to Montana to face Montana and Montana State in the final two games of the season.

Idaho State takes on Montana and Montana State this weekend in the final two matches of the season.

BENGAL OVERVIEW
Idaho State split matches between Northern Colorado and Northern Arizona last weekend to improve to 14-12 and 7-7 in Big Sky Conference play. The Bengals are in fifth place. ISU finishes the 2011 season on the road against Montana and Montana State this weekend. Montana is in sixth place in the conference with a 9-13, 6-8 BSC record. Montana State is ninth with a 4-23, 2-12 BSC record. The Bengals split with the teams at home in October, defeating Montana 3-1 and dropping a 3-2 match against Montana State.

LAST WEEK IN BENGAL VOLLEYBALL
Idaho State split matches between Northern Colorado (19-8, 12-3 BSC) and Northen Arizona (15-9, 6-9) over the weekend. Idaho State lost 3-0  (25-18, 25-20, 25-18) to the Bears on Friday. Senior middle blocker Vanessa Muir led the Bengals with 10 kills, 2.5 blocks and 12.5 points while sophomore setter Lori Mendenhall put up 19 assists and freshman defensive specialist Kylee Searle led the dig effort with 16.

On Senior Night, Idaho State defeated Northern Arizona in straight sets (26-24, 25-17, 25-22) on Saturday. Three Bengals recorded double-doubles during the match. Senior setter Karissa Leguax recorded 46 assists during the match as well as 10 digs for a double-double. Junior Breanne Van Every led Idaho State with a match-high 21 kills and earned a double-double with 10 digs. Redshirt freshman Danielle Downs also recorded a double-double in the match with 10 kills and 16 digs.

BIG SKY TOURNAMENT
In Big Sky volleyball Saturday night, the fields are set for the Big Sky Tournament on Nov. 25-26 in Portland, Ore. Northern Colorado, Portland State, Eastern Washington and Sacramento State will move on to the tournament.

Sacramento State defeated Montana 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-16), Northern Colorado defeated Weber State 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-20), Idaho State defeated Northern Arizona 3-0 (26-24, 25-17, 25-22) and Portland State defeated Eastern Washington 3-1 (26-28, 25-23, 25-17, 25-11).

Sacramento State moves to 9-5 in the BSC, while Montana falls to 6-8 in the conference. Northern Colorado moves to 12-3 in the conference, and will host the 2012 Big Sky Tournament, while Weber State falls to 3-11 in the BSC. Idaho State moves to 7-7 in the conference, while NAU falls to 6-9. PSU is now 11-4 in the conference, while Eastern Washington falls to 9-6.

BENGAL STAND-OUT: VAN EVERY
Junior outside hitter and defensive specialist Breanne Van Every continued to lead the Bengals last week as she recorded her 10th double-double of the season with a 21 kills and 10 digs against the Lumberjacks. Van Every also recorded her 19th match of the season where she tallied double-figure kills. Van Every scored 21.5 points against the Lumberjacks. Van Every holds the third best kill average in the conference with 3.42 kills per set and third most points in conference play having earned 387.5

ABOUT THE BENGALS
Idaho State moved to 14-12, 7-7BSC and sit in fifth place in Big Sky play after splitting matches with Northern Colorado and Northern Arizona this weekend. Breanne Van Every holds the third best kill average in the conference with 3.42 kills per set and third most points in conference play having earned 387.5  Sophomore setter Lori Mendenhall averages 9.15 assists per set in conference play for the third most in Big Sky action.  Libero Kylee Searle posts the fifth best service aces per game in the league with 0.29 and the third best digs per set average at 4.66 in the Big Sky.  Senior Vanessa Muir, a middle blocker, leads ISU with 1.01 blocks per set in conference play and is ranked sixth in the conference.

MUIR DOUBLES DOWN
In the first match against Northern Colorado, this season three Bengals were one dig shy of a double-double performance with Breanne Van Every recording 22 kills, Lori Mendenhall with 43 assists and Danielle Downs with 10 kills.  However, senior middle blocker Vanessa Muir earned her first career double-double another way.  She had 10 kills and a career-high 10 blocks in ISU's five set win over the Bears.  

YOUNG BENGALS STEP-UP FOR ISU AND TOP THE BIG SKY
Lori Mendenhall leads all sophomores with 9.15 assists for the season while Kylee Searle leads all freshman for digs (4.66) and aces (.29) for the season and in Big Sky action (5.22 dps, 0.27 aps).  Mendenhall has already recorded 21 double-figure assist matches while Searle has posted 20 double-figure digs.

TEICHERT CAPTURES 50TH HEAD COACH VICTORY AGAINST 'JACKS
Idaho State Head Coach Chad Teichert captured his 50th career victory in a four set match at Northern Arizona on Oct. 13 improving his record to 50-54.  Teichert began his collegiate coaching career with the Bengals in 2008 and each year ISU has improved.  In his first season, he led ISU to a 10-match win season; the first since 2006.  In his second season, the Bengals posted a 13-15 season record.  Last season, the Bengals finished third in the conference with a 9-7 record, reaching the conference tournament for the first time since 2005 when it was a six-team event. The overall record for the Bengals was 18-13, Teichert's first winning record as a head coach and ISU's first winning record since 2003.

FIELDS STEPS UP PLAY IN CONFERENCE
Freshman outside hitter Alydia Fields posts the third best mark at 2.12 kills per set on the Bengal squad in league action.  She has posted all six of her double-figure kill matches in conference play.  Against Northern Arizona on Oct. 13, Fields posted a match-high 14 kills while maintaining a .344 attack percentage.  

ABOUT MONTANA
Montana posts a 9-13, 6-8 Big Sky Conference record for the season. Kayla Reno leads the Grizzlies with 2.88 kills per set. Kortney James leads the assist effort for Montana with 8.25 assists per set. Megan Murphy leads in digs for the Grizzlies with 4.10 assists per set. The Grizzlies are coming off a 3-0 loss to Sacramento State.

SERIES INFO AND LAST MEETING WITH THE GRIZ
Montana currently leads the series 40-27. Idaho State defeated the Griz in four sets (25-23, 25-20, 12-25, 25-23) Oct. 8. Breanne Van Every led the Bengals with a double-double of 19 kills and 15 digs. Setter Lori Mendenhall was one dig shy of a double-double as she recorded 40 assists.  Freshman Alydia Fields chippied in 10 kills.  Libero Kylee Searle had 14 digs while defensive specialist Katie Grajewski notched 10 digs.

ABOUT MONTANA STATE
Montana State posts a record of 4-23, 2-12 BSC for the season. Sarah Horton leads the Bobcats in kills (2.49). Nicole Baker leads the dig effort with 4.59 digs per set and Jennifer Lundquist leads the team in assists with 8.89 per set. The Bobcats come off a set of split matches with non-conference opponent CSU Bakersfield this weekend falling to the Roadrunners 3-1 Friday and defeating CSUB 3-0 Saturday.

SERIES INFO AND LAST MEETING WITH THE BOBCATS
Idaho State currently leads the series 33-31. Idaho State had a slow start in the last meeting resulting in a five-set loss (25-18, 25-19, 19-25, 15-25, 16-14). Mendenhall recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 44 assists and 19 digs.  Breanne Van Every also recorded a double-double, her fifth of the season, with a match-high 18 kills and a career-high 21 digs.
