POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team lost at North Dakota, 63-47 on Monday night at the Sioux Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The Bengals dropped to 0-2 while future Big Sky Conference member North Dakota improved to 2-0.
Idaho State never led in the game and shot 35.7 percent from the field while North Dakota shot 43.5 percent. Each team had 32 rebounds. Idaho State turned the ball over 20 times while North Dakota had only 12 turnovers.
“Offensively we just never got in gear,” Idaho State coach Joe O'Brien said. “We came out stagnant and a little lethargic. We've got to play hard all the time. If this group does not play hard and split the minutes with 10 guys we are not going to be very good.”
Andre Hatchett led ISU in scoring with 11 points and five rebounds while
Jakub Kusmieruk had 10 points and six rebounds.
Chase Grabau added eight points and five rebounds.
Kenny McGowen had six assists.
“Defensively I thought we were ok,” O'Brien said. “We were good enough if we had a good offensive night we would have won a road game.”
The Bengals fell behind 13-5 seven minutes into the game and then cut the UND lead to 13-11 with 11:32 left in the first half after a jumper by Kusmieruk. North Dakota then went on a run to lead 21-11 but the Bengals then cut their deficit to three at 21-18 after
Brandon Glanz connected on a 3-point play with eight minutes left in the half.
Idaho State managed only five points the rest of the period and trailed 36-23 at the break.
North Dakota built its lead to as many as 17 points in the second half.
