Bengals Fall to South Dakota 66-54

POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State lost to South Dakota 66-54 at home Wednesday night. The Bengals (7-5) struggled offensively, only shooting 31.5 percent.
 
Senior guard Chelsea Pickering led the Bengals with 20 points, four rebounds and four steals. Kaela Oakes and Ashleigh Vella followed Pickering with nine and eight points respectively. Junior forward Jessa Jeppesen led the team in rebounds with eight. South Dakota out rebounded the Bengals 37-35.
 
In the first half, the Bengals shot 19.4 percent. The Bengals trailed 29-20 at halftime and never led in the game.
 
“It wasn't anything that they did defensively,” ISU Assistant Coach Tony Giannotti said. “They are what they are. They are solid on the defensive end and we knew that going in. As far as giving them too much credit, you know, I think maybe we could have a little but at the same time I can guarantee their coach was saying the same thing about us.”
 
Idaho State shot 46.2 percent in the second half but got no closer than the halftime deficit as South Dakota extended its lead to as many as 18 points.  ISU had 24 points in the paint, 15 off of turnovers and converted seven second chance points. The Bengal bench scored 28 points.
 
Wednesday's game is the third of five straight home games for Idaho State. The Bengals are 3-1 at home this season.
 
Idaho State's next game will be against Great Falls on December 30 at 7:05 p.m. at which point the new ICCU Court in Reed Gym will be unveiled.
