POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State (9-17, 4-9) returns to Big Sky play to host conference rival Weber State (15-10, 9-4) at ICCU Court in Holt Arena at 7 p.m. The game can be heard live on 930 KSEI with
Jerry Miller and
Brad Bugger calling the action. Tuesday is White Out Weber night where fans that wear a white T-Shirt to the game can get into the contest for half price ($8.50). Tuesday is also Faculty and Staff Apprecation Night. All Faculty and Staff can purchase unlimited $6 tickets.
Weber State leads the overall series 73-46. The Wildcats have won the last five meetings. Idaho State's last win over Weber State was Feb. 2, 2008, a 63-59 win in Pocatello. The last two meetings between these two schools in Pocatello have gone to overtime where Weber State pulled out a 95-93 triple overtime win last year and a 76-67 victory on Jan. 26, 2009.
Weber State is 15-10 and 9-4 in Big Sky play. Scott Bamforth leads Wildcats in scoring at 12.4 overall and 14 points a game in conference play. Kyle Bullinger is scoring 13.9 points a game in Big Sky contests. Weber State is scoring 72.6 points a game and shooting 46 percent from the field while opponents are scoring 67.5 points a game and shooting 42.8 percent from the field.
The Magic Number is...
Since the win at Portland State, the Bengals are 3-1 in the last four games. In the three wins ISU has shot 48 percent from the field and turned the ball over 10 times or less in the three wins. Idaho State has also scored 84 points or more in the three victories.
Long Range
The 12 3-pointers Idaho State made against Cal State Fullerton was the most since making 13 against Northern Arizona on Feb. 1, 2007. The most 3-pointers made by an ISU team in the last six years is 15 against Montana Tech on Dec. 1, 2004.
Taking Care of the Rock
In the Bengals win at Portland State they had a season-low seven turnovers. ISU also had seven turnovers at Creighton. In the last 15 games, ISU is averaging 11.9 turnovers a game. In the first 11 games of the season ISU averaged 15.4 turnovers with a season-high of 23 at Iowa. During the 15-game stretch, the Bengals have had 11 games ofs 13 turnovers of less, three of the games being less than 10.
Solid off the Bench
Since coming off the bench, Phyl Taylor has played his best basketball of his Idaho State career since coming off the bench five games ago. He had a career-high 22 points in an overtime win over Northern Arizona on Feb. 12. He had nine points and seven assists in the 84-79 win at Portland State and he added 16 in a loss to Eastern Washington. In the nonconference win over Cal State Fullerton he had 14 points in 27 minutes off the bench.
Getting offensive
Idaho State is 3-1 in the last four games. During this stretch it has had its three best offensive performances of the season, scoring 84 points in wins over Portland State and Cal State Fullerton and 90 vs. Northern Arizona. At Portland, ISU was 32-for-67 from the field with a season-low seven turnovers. On Saturday, the Bengals were 34-for-71 with only nine turnovers. ISU shot 48 percent from the field in all three wins. The 90 points vs. Northern Arizona was the third best team-offensive performance under O'Brien while the 84 points at Portland State and home vs. Cal State Fullerton was the seventh-best offensive performance under an O'Brien coached team at Idaho State. The most points ISU has scored in a game under O'Brien was 98 in a 2OT loss to NAU on Feb. 1, 2007. Four of the nine top scoring games have come against Portland State and Northern Arizona.
