Bengals Fall at Northern Colorado

GREELEY, Colo. –
Conference leader Northern Colorado's hot shooting night at 58.7 percent from the field downed Idaho State's 27.8 percent effort for a 73-49 win over the Bengals on the road. Idaho State has already clinched a post season berth to the Big Sky Championship.

Idaho State had three players in double-figure scoring led by senior guard Chelsea Pickering leading the way with 13 points. Both of Idaho State's top forwards scored 11 points, sophomore Ashleigh Vella and freshman Cydney Horton off the bench.

Horton hit 4-of-6 from the field and pulled down four rebounds all on offense. The Bengals out-rebounded Northern Colorado 13-to-4 on o-boards.

In the first half Northern Colorado took a nine point lead at the break, 37-28, when they out-shot ISU 60 percent from the field to 45.8 percent. Northern Colorado stayed strong in the second half hitting 57.1 percent while the Bengals fell off at 13.3 percent with a 4-of-30 effort.

The Bears held its largest lead of the game at 25 with 7:38 remaining. Northern Colorado had four players in double-figures led by D'shara Strange with 17 points. She was 5-of-6 from the field and a perfect 7-of-7 from the line.

Northern Colorado improved to 17-11, 12-3 in conference play while Idaho State fell to 16-11, 7-7 in league action.

Idaho State will host its final two home contests of the season at Reed Gym starting with Weber State on Thursday, March 3 at 7:05 p.m. followed by Senior Day against Northern Colorado on Saturday, March 5 at 2:05 p.m.

Notes: The loss handed Northern Colorado it's first win over the Bengals breaking a 10-0 series record.
