Diego Cavalcanti captured his first victory as a Bengal defeating Sacramento State's Mark Starcevic in three sets at the No. 3 spot in Idaho State's first conference dual match of the season. Cavalcanti fell in a tiebreaker in the first set 7-6 (7-5) but quickly turned his game around easily overcoming Starcevic 6-1 and 6-4 in the second and third sets.
Sacramento State, the defending Big Sky tournament champion, improved to 2-2 for the season and 2-0 in league action after defeating Weber State earlier in the day. Idaho State fell to 0-3 for the season.

Colton Pate and
Nate Gross teamed up at the No. 3 doubles spot to post their first doubles win of the season together overcoming Joe DeGuzman and Josh Lorentzen 8-3. The Hornets barely edged out the Bengals in doubles at the No. 1 and 2 positions with both going into a 9-7 tiebreaker decision.
Gross fought hard in singles pushing his opponent to two tiebreaker sets, but Hornet Aliaksandr Malko captured the win by the skin of his teeth prevailing 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-1) to give Gross his first singles loss of the season. Gross had climbed his way up the lineup advancing from the No. 6 to the No. 4 position.
ISU's next match will be a non-conference contest at Weber State on February 8 at noon in Ogden, Utah.
