PHOENIX, Ariz. - Katharina Marsela defeated Edit Suhajda at the No. 1 singles spot for ISU's lone victory over Northern Arizona in a contest filled with winds and rain. Idaho State fell 5-1 to the Lumberjacks at the Paseo Racquet Center Monday morning
High winds persisted throughout the contest making match play difficult. Rain caused play to stop for a few minutes and sprinkled on and off during the match. Due to the oncoming rain, the Big Sky teams played singles only.
Junior Marsela was the last player off the court defeating Suhajda 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 1 spot. The Bengal fought back from being down 3-4 in the third set to win the match. Marsela improves to 3-2 for the season.
Rilee Moorhead and
Laura Porras each held a 4-1 lead in their first sets fighting against the wind. However Northern Arizona adapted. Moorhead fell 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot to Orsi Golovics while Porras was overcome 6-4, 6-4 to Malia Wahinepo at the No. 3 spot.
ISU fell to 1-4 for the season and 0-2 in Big Sky matches while Northern Arizona improved to 7-6 for the season and 2-1 in league play.
Idaho State travels to Las Vegas to play Western New Mexico on Wednesday, March 23 at the Bally's Hotel at 9 a.m.
