USAFA, Colo. – The Idaho State women's tennis team continued its 2026 fall season this weekend at the ITA Bedford Cup in the Mountains, hosted by Air Force at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado.
The Bengals sent seven players to the three-day tournament, competing across five singles draws and two doubles flights against a deep field that included Idaho State, Air Force, Appalachian State, Colorado, Colorado State, Idaho, New Mexico, Texas Tech, Utah State, and Wyoming
Singles Play
Idaho State faced strong competition throughout the singles draws, with Bengals competing in the Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta and Echo flights.
In the Alpha Draw, Emmy Richards opened against Utah State's Sabina Pintea. Richards battled in the second set before falling, 1-6, 4-6.
The Bravo Draw featured both Daisy Carpenter and Veronika Zarovna. Carpenter faced No. 4 seed Giulia Alexandra Musat of Utah State, falling 2-6, 1-6, while Zarovna drew No. 2 seed Ella Brownback of Texas Tech and fell 1-6, 4-6.
Freshman Scarlett Matthews represented Idaho State in the Charlie Draw, taking on No. 2 seed Chahd Tourkhani of Utah State. Matthews fell 3-6, 2-6 in her opening match.
In the Delta Draw, Victoria Grymalska faced top-seeded Dilnaz Mashabayeva of Wyoming, falling 0-6, 0-6. Sophie Schorm also competed in the flight, dropping a 2-6, 2-6 decision to No. 2 seed Sreenidhi Balaji of Appalachian State.
Macy Richards provided Idaho State's singles victory of the weekend in the Echo Draw. Facing Wyoming's Ruby Young, Richards put together a strong performance to earn a 7-5, 6-3 victory.
Richards later met Colorado State's Zaria McGinty, battling through another competitive match before falling 3-6, 5-7.
Doubles Play
The Bengals had three pairings competing in doubles, with Richards and Zarovna taking part in the Blue Flight and two additional Idaho State teams competing in the Silver Flight.
In the Blue Flight, Emmy Richards and Veronika Zarovna faced Appalachian State's Lily Bazemore and Isabela Romanichen. The Bengals fell 2-6 in their opening-round matchup.
The Silver Flight featured Macy Richards and Sophie Schorm, who faced New Mexico's Ana Veroux and Sarah L'Allier, falling 2-6.
Daisy Carpenter and Scarlett Matthews teamed up for Idaho State's other Silver Flight entry, facing Appalachian State's Sreenidhi Balaji and Allegra Hodson. Carpenter and Matthews fell 1-6.
Despite a challenging weekend against a strong tournament field, Idaho State continued to gain valuable match experience early in its fall campaign, particularly for a Bengal roster featuring several newcomers.
