LAS VEGAS – Katharina Marsela and
Laura Porras posted an 8-4 doubles victory over Stephanie Biehn and Stephanie Petsis at the No. 2 spot in ISU's 7-0 loss to North Dakota Thursday afternoon. The Bengals ran out of gas after playing Seattle earlier in the day.
The Bengals were overcome in singles dropping an 8-5 decision at the No. 1 spot and 8-4 at the No. 3 positions to give North Dakota the doubles point. Marsela and Porras improved to 4-3 for the season at the No. 2 doubles position.
Katharina Marsela fell 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 1 singles position to Erin Kappers. Junior
Laura Porras put in a strong fight though the score didn't reflect it as she fell 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 position. Junior
Rilee Moorhead was the deciding match falling 6-2, 6-1 to Petsis at the No. 2 position.
Zamira Vasquez was tied with North Dakota's Chelsey Galipeau 5-5 at deuce in the first set when the players switched courts because the lights went out on their court. They resumed the match but the switch favored Galipeau as she pulled out a 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 win over the Bengal at the No. 6 position.
Junior
Risa Fujiwara fell 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot to Hallie Welk while
Laura Severino fell 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 5 position to Biehn.
The Bengals fell to 2-6 while North Dakota improved to 9-6 for the season.
Idaho State continues its stay in Las Vegas when they play South Dakota at 9 a.m. on Friday, March 25 at the Bally's Hotel.
