Mike Kramer announced the addition of six players to this year's 2011 recruiting class. Joining the Bengal football program this fall are four high school student-athletes, one junior college transfer and one Division I transfer.
Here is a closer look at the incoming student-athletes joining the Bengal football program.
Antonio Evans, 5-10, 191, CB, So. St. Louis, Miss. (Arizona Western) So.
Played at Arizona Western Junior College … redshirted in 2009 … had 40 tackles, 25 solo in 2010 … recorded eight pass breakups and started all 12 games … earned second-team all-conference on a team that went 10-2 and 7-1 … as a sophomore led his to the Champs Hot Bowl … as a senior in high school had 60 tackles, four interceptions, 12 pass breakups … as a junior had 53 tackles, five interceptions and 15 pass breakups …garnered first-team all-conference and all-metro honors … mother is Lavonna Perkins.
Kramer on Evans: “He is a 3-4 guy who had an outstanding year on a nationally ranked junior college program. He was a back up when the season began and emerged as a quality starter on a nationally well-respected junior college defense who can play safety or corner.”
Patrick Carter Jr., 6-2, 180, DB, Boise, Idaho (Capital HS) Fr.
Lettered three years in football, two in track and field one in basketball … played on both sides of the ball in high school … played in the Shrine All-Star game and the Idaho All-State game … parents are Caltia and Patrick Carter Sr. … was coached by Todd Simis.
Kramer on Carter: “He is a long angular safety with excellent ball skills. He can play on both sides of the ball but figures predominately for us in the secondary.”
Myles Daughtry, 5-9, 180 WR, Clarksburg, Md. (New Mexico) So.
NEW MEXICO: Left the program mid-way through the 2010 season ... was a key return man for the Lobos, had a 100-yard Kickoff return against UTEP... redshirted the 2009 season...caught eight passes for 73 yards with a long of 18 yards … returned 13 kickoffs for 344 yards, good for an average of 24.6 yards a return.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 2009 graduate of Clarksburg (Md.) High School, which was only founded in 2006...speedster who averaged an eye-popping 25.9 yards and scored 10 touchdowns on his 29 catches (750 yards) as a senior team captain for the class 2A power Coyotes...first team all-league and honorable mention Small School All-State selection in 2008...Clarksburg went 10-0 in the regular season before losing in the state semifinals in both 2007 and `08...played for head coach Larry Hurd...reportedly timed under 4.4 in 40.
Kramer on Daughtry: “He is an experienced Division I wide receiver with outstanding speed. He should help us establish a vertical threat in the interior parts of our receiving corp.”
Duke Bukoski, 6-0, 185, WR, Honolulu, HI (St. Louis HS) Fr.
As a senior recorded 50 receptions for 942 yards and 13 touchdowns … averaged 78.5 yards per game and 18.8 yards a catch … ranked No. 1 receiver in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu … was the No. 1 scoring leader in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu … earned first-team all-star selection in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu … ranked the No. 3 receiver in the state and was the No. 6 scoring leader in all of Hawai'i … named player of the week five times … was team captain and selected to play in the Hawai'i East-West All-Star game … 2010 Tom Lemming Top 20 Hawai'i recruit … for his career had 92 receptions for 1,663 yards and 20 touchdowns … averaged 75.6 yards a game and 18.1 yards a catch … two-time all-state all-star selection and Interscholastic League of Honolulu selection.
Kramer on Bukoski: “He is our only freshman wide receiver recruit who decline several other Big Sky scholarship offers to accept a scholarship from us. He is a savvy, experienced and well trained which means he should be able to compete for playing time immediately.”
Christian Diehm, 6-5, 235, Carson, Calif. (San Pedro HS) Fr.
As a senior earned first-team All-Marine League as a defensive end and second-team all-city as a tight end … was named to the second-team all-area as a defensive end … named Lineman of the Year and the Academic Co-Captain … started for the 46th annual Lions all-star game at defensive end … rated the top eighth top tight end in the country by Schumans National Underclassmen Top 100 Prospect Combine … Projected to win the C.I.F. All-City Swimming Championship … as a defensive end recorded eight pass deflections, two interceptions, 41 tackles, 27 unassisted and one touchdown … had three catches for 42 yards and a touchdown as a tight end … as a junior in high school earned first-team All-Marine League as a tight end and was runner up in the C.I.F. all-city swimming championships in the 50-yard freestyle.
Kramer on Diehm: “He is and athletic, long and rangy offensive tackle who is in the mold of
Brad Shedd. He is expected to redshirt along with the other core of offensive linemen signed by us this year.”
Travis Namohala, 6-3, 285 Honolulu, Hawaii'i (Kamehameha HS) Fr.
Played his senior season in high school at the age of 16 … high school team won the state championship in 2009 … named the 2010 All-Poly Camp Hawai'i Offensive Line MVP … earned the 2010 FBU Camp O-Line Top Gun Award.
Kramer on Namohala: “He is a late blooming offensive tackle, extremely young for his class. His January birthday makes him a leading candidate to gray shirt and begin classes in January.”
