Laura Porras was down match point at 9-7 against Montana State's Wena Tsan but she didn't give up. Nor did her effort falter when she was down 9-8 or tied at 9-9. Porras, who is known for her steady play and grit like determination, staved off three match points for Montana State's Tsan and winning four straight points to win the tiebreaker 11-9.
Porras' 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 victory at the No. 3 position marks her second straight victory. Her record for the season improves to 7-3, the best mark on the team.
Zamira Vasquez was awarded her victory when her opponent Andrea De La Torre retired at the No. 5 position.
Porras and Vasquez's victories were not enough as the Bengals fell 5-2 to Montana State on Friday afternoon at the Anderson-Bobcat Tennis Center in a match that lasted three hours and 30 minutes.
Idaho State fell to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in Big Sky matches.
The Bengals play Montana in another Big Sky match-up exactly 24 hours after ISU's contest with the Bobcats. ISU plays Montana on Saturday, April 9 at 2 p.m. at the Peak Health and Wellness Racquet Club.
