POCATELLO, Idaho - Idaho State women's cross country opened strong in a dual meet against Southern Utah at the Centennial Course Friday morning. The women beat Southern Utah 24-31 while the men fell 15-47. Senior
Bradi Hutchison finished first with a time of 10:18.20 to tie the course record set by Southern Utah's Sharla Manuel-Platt in 2009.
Bradi Hutchison predicts faster times for her entire team in the future.
“This week, I think the entire team went out a little more conservative than we had hoped for. We weren't too tired when the race finished, so I think we can really pick up the pace for next week,” said Bradi Hutchison.
Hutchison was followed by Cydney Jacobsen who placed fourth with a time of 10:44.00, Audrey Urlacher was fifth with a time of 10:49.90 and Chloe Palakovich placed sixth with 10:51.20. Freshman Kylie Hutchison, who placed eighth with a time of 11:01.70, performed well in her first college meet, scoring for the Bengals. Callie Kettner ran 11:33.60 to finish sixth for Idaho State.
“I was very pleased with the first race,” said Head Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach Brian Janssen. “All of the ladies performed very well, I believe faster than last year.”
In 2010, Idaho State beat Southern Utah 27-30. Combined, the team ran the course in 54:16.00 while they ran it in 53:45.00 this season. Erica Wendt-Richardson won the race with a time of 10:21.00. Third place Bradi Hutchison ran the course in 10:37.00.
The men were led by juniors Bryce Jenkins who placed eighth with a time of 19:52.00 and Eric Strand finished ninth place with a time of 19:58.50. Freshmen KC Hunsiker came in 10th with a time of 20:00.70 and Nicasio Westland was 12th with 20:29.50. Senior Chaz Anestos finished fifth for the Bengals and 14th overall with a time of 21:27.00.
“On the men's side, we didn't run as well as a team, but we expected that,” said Janssen. “I was very impressed with how some of our new freshmen ran. I just hope we can stay healthy and continue on the direction we are going.”
