Bengal Volleyball Hosts Wildcats, Travels to Hornets

Idaho State hosts Weber State Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Bengals face Weber State at home Wednesday before traveling to Sacramento State Friday.

BENGAL OVERVIEW

Idaho State volleyball (11-4, 5-1 BSC) is currently second in the Big Sky Conference and hosts Weber State (7-10, 1-5 BSC) Wednesday, Oct. 3 before travelling to Sacramento State (5-10, 1-5 BSC) Friday, Oct. 5. Wednesday's match begins at 7 p.m. and Friday's begins at 8 p.m. Live stats and video for the weekend's matches will be available at www.isubengals.com for Wednesday's match-up and at www.hornetsports.com for Friday's contest.

ABOUT IDAHO STATE
The Bengals are 11-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play on the season after splitting with Montana State and Montana on the road. Redshirt freshman outside hitter Tressa Lyman leads the Bengals in kills, averaging 3.40 per set. Junior setter Lori Mendenhall leads the assist effort with 659 assists and leads the conference, averaging 11.17 assists per set. Redshirt senior Jaclyn Hone-Hawkins leads ISU in blocks with 55 this season while redshirt sophomore Kylee Searle leads in digs with 3.66 per set. Van Every leads ISU in service aces with 20.

As a team the Bengals are leading the conference in hitting percentage (.253), assists (13.08), kills (13.97) and service aces, averaging 1.47 per set.

Nationally, the Bengals are ranked 34th in hitting percentage and 39th in assists per set. Individually, Lori Mendenhall is 31st in the nation in assists per set.

LAST WEEK IN BENGAL VOLLEYBALL
Last week, ISU split a pair of match-ups with Montana State and Montana. The Bengals fell to Montana State 3-2 and defeated the Griz 3-2. Lori Mendnenhall posted 110 assists and 32 digs over the two matches. Tressa Lyman led ISU with 36 kills.

HONE-HAWKINS CLOSING IN ON 1,000-POINT CLUBS
Redshirt senior Jaclyn Hone-Hawkins is closing in on two 1,000 benchmarks. Hone-Hawkins has complied 972 total points and is 28 points away from breaking the 1,000-point barrier. Hone-Hawkins also has 916 total digs, 84 away from 1,000. She also has 819 total kills. To become a meber of the triple crown club, a player needs 1,000 points, 1,000 digs and 1,000 kills.

BENGAL STANDOUT: LORI MENDENHALL
So far this season, junior setter Lori Mendenhall has been named Big Sky Player of the Week twice (9/17 and 9/10). After leading ISU to a Kesier Classic title, she was also named tournament MVP. Against NAU (9/14), Mendenhall recorded a career-high 62 assists on her way to a double-double with 12 digs. So far this season she has recorded 659 total assists as well as 51 kills, 12 service aces, 145 digs and 26 blocks.

VAN EVERY NAMED SENIOR CLASS AWARD CANDIDATE
Senior outside hitter Breanne Van Every has been selected as a candidate for the 2012 Senior CLASS Award. Van Every is one of 30 candidates selected from Division I teams nationwide. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

Van Every currently has 189 kills this season, averaging 3.20 per set. She also has a team-high 20 service aces as well as 18 assists, 135 digs and 25 blocks.

Van Every has been named to two all-tournament teams this season, the El Paso Sports Commission Invitational and Nike Portland Invitational. In 2011, Van Every was named to the all-tournament teams for the Utah State Tournament and UniWyo Cowgirl Classic.
 
ABOUT WEBER STATE
Weber State is 7-10 overall and 1-5 in conference play. The Wildcats are 2-4 on the road and are currently on a one-game losing streak after falling 3-0 to Montana State. Rebecca Fuchs leads in kills, averaging 3.17 per set. Caitlin Penrod leads the assist effort with 8.07 per set while Audrey Gee leads the Wildcats in blocks with 55 this season. Laurel Bodily leads WSU in digs, averaging 3.38 per set. WSU is fourth in the conference in service aces, averaging 1.25 per set.

SERIES INFO AND LAST MEETING WITH THE WILDCATS
Weber State leads the series 40-37. The Wildcats won the last meeting 3-1 Oct. 27, 2011 in Ogden, Utah. Prior to the last contest, ISU was on a four-match win streak against WSU running from November 2009 to September 2011.

ABOUT SACRAMENTO STATE
Sacramento State is 5-10 overall and 1-5 in conference play. The Hornets are 3-2 at home this season and are currently on a five-match losing streak. Janelle Currey leads in kills with 167 this season. Hannah Hettinga leads the assist effort, averaging 8.62 per set while Sydney Kordic leads in digs with 4.73 per set. Ashley Newcomb has the most blocks with 67 while Olivia Moss leads the conference in blocks per set, averaging 1.45. Sacramento State is leading the conference in blocks, averaging 3.07 per set.

SERIES INFO AND LAST MEETING WITH THE HORNETS
Sacramento State leads the series 27-6 and the Bengals are 2-13 in Sacramento. Idaho State won the last meeting 3-2 on Nov. 5, 2011 3-2.
