“There was so much hustle for everyone from the beginning to the end,” ISU Head Coach
Chad Teichert said. “We served well, passed well and hit well. Portland State played very well and the Vikings are a very well-coached team so it really says something about this team to win in that fashion. There was just tremendous effort from our girls. There was great intensity and focus from the beginning clear to the end.”
The victory keeps ISU's home win-streak alive as the Bengals are now 6-0 at home in Reed Gym.
Redshirt freshman
Tressa Lyman led Idaho State with a double-double compiling 10 kills and 12 digs. Lyman also recorded one block.
Sophomore Alydia Fields led the Bengals with 11 kills. Fields also recorded three digs and a team-high six blocks.
The Bengals out-blocked Idaho State 11-3 and the Bengals posted an outstanding .349 attack percentage over the three sets while the Vikings boasted just a .131 attack percentage.
“We hit the ball very well tonight but one of the biggest things about this match was our blocking,” Teichert said. “After the first set we didn't have a single block but we put up seven in the second match and finished the match with 11. We made some slight adjustments after the first set that made a huge difference and made it a lot easier.”
Idaho State faces Eastern Washington next as the Bengal take on the Eagles in Reed Gym Saturday at 8 p.m.
