Bengals Battle No. 25 Kansas to 52-36 Finish

ISU senior forward Ashleigh Vella led the Bengals with 10 points Sunday against No. 25 Kansas.
Box Score LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Idaho State women's basketball team dropped its second contest of the season 52-36 to No. 25 Kansas Sunday afternoon. Senior forward Ashleigh Vella led Idaho State with 10 points. The Melbourne, Australia native also recorded eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals in 28 minutes of play.
 
Junior forward Cydney Horton had a team-high 10 rebounds to go with six total points. Junior guard Lindsey Reed also had six points with four rebounds and one assist.
 
The Bengals struggled offensively as the squad shot just 12-55 from the field and 1-12 from 3-point range. ISU was out-rebounded 51-39 and gave up 19 turnovers to the Jayhawks. Kansas capitalized on those as the Jayhawks scored 19 of their 51 points off turnovers. ISU also allowed Kansas 17 second chance points.
 
Defensively, ISU held Kansas to a 30.8 shooting percentage for the game and 22.2 percent from beyond the arc. The Bengals forced 14 Kansas turnovers which were converted for nine points. ISU allowed no Kansas 3-point shots in the first half and just two for the entire contest.
 
Idaho State shot just 18.5 percent in the first half leading to a 23-11 lead for Kansas at the half. The Bengals tried to battle back in the second, scoring 25 points to the Jayhawks' 29 but could not close the gap as the game ended in a 52-36 decision.
 
The Bengals play their home season opener Saturday, Nov. 17 at 12 p.m. against Air Force. Idaho State defeated Air Force 68-58 in the last meeting between the two programs on Nov. 18, 2010.
