VERMILLION, S.D. – The Idaho State women's basketball team (3-2) has won three straight as the Bengals routed South Dakota (2-5) 69-45 on the Coyotes' home floor in Vermillion, S.D. Thursday night. Junior guard
Lindsey Reed led ISU with a season-high 20 points in the contest.
Reed shot 7-13 from the field and hit four 3-point shots. She went 2-2 from the line and had three rebounds, one assist and three steals.
“Lindsey was there when we really needed her,” ISU Head Coach
Seton Sobolewski said. “She played with a ton of confidence tonight. Early on she made some shots for us when we were having a tough time scoring. She came through and hit some tough shots from 3-point range. She just did a great job.”
Idaho State's conference-leading scoring defense held South Dakota's top scorer, Nicole Seekamp, to just three points in the contest. Seekamp scored one point in the first half and hit her only field goal of the contest midway through the second half. Seekamp came into the contest averaging 13.7 points per game.
ISU held the Coyotes to a 26.4 shooting percentage for the contest and allowed the fewest points from an opponent so far this season with 45. The Bengals entered tonight's contest allowing an average of 55 points from their opponents.
“We've done a pretty good job so far this season of gearing in on top players, stopping them and slowing them down,” Sobolewski said. “We did a good job of defending the leading scorers for Kansas, Air Force and Boise State as well. Overall, I wanted us to work on our low post defense and I knew that was something that we could potentially work on here in the second half. ”

Cydney Horton, after struggling in the first half, posted all 12 of her points in the second half.

Ashleigh Vella pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds. She also posted four assists and four blocks.
Overall, Idaho State shot 36.9 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from 3-point range. The Bengals went 72.2 percent from the line and out-rebounded the Coyotes 43-42. ISU committed just nine turnovers and forced 19 from South Dakota. The Bengals had six total blocks, 11 steals and converted 23 points off turnovers.
At the end of the first half, Reed led the Bengals with 13 points as Idaho State held a 10-point lead. ISU hit five 3-point shots in the first half and had forced 10 South Dakota turnovers.
Next up for the Bengals is No. 19 Nebraska. The Bengals face the Huskers Saturday, Dec. 1 at 1:05 p.m. in Lincoln, Neb., in the Devaney Center. Nebraska lost its first home game of the season to No. 10 Maryland in a 90-71 decision Wednesday night.
