Rachel Ryan took the No. 3 spot with a win over Kurer and Lloyd.
“This is the first win against a Big Sky team in a long time,” ISU Head Coach
Bobby Goeltz said. “I can't remember the last time we won the doubles point against a Division I team. With winning the doubles point today, this team really set the tone for the rest of the match.”
Porras, Moorhead, Tangarife and Vazquez would go on to earn singles wins as well to help ISU earn a 5-2 win over the Wildcats. Porras defeated Tanner at the No. 2 spot 6-1, 6-1 and Moorhead won her match at the No. 3 spot 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. Tangarife won at the No. 4 position in a three-set match while Vasquez defeated WSU's Phonharath 6-3, 7-6 at the No. 5 spot.
“I think this Weber State team is better than they played today,” Goeltz said. “I think it will be a very tough win in March when we play down there. It's still very early in the season but I'm really pleased that we got the win. I'm anxious to see what will happen this weekend against Portland State and Northern Arizona.”
The Bengals return to the court this Saturday, Feb. 18 in the team's first conference match-up of the season. ISU faces Portland State at 1 p.m. at the Reed Gym Indoor Courts.
