Bengals Host Eastern Washington in Reed Gym

Idaho State and Portland State are tied for third place in the Big Sky Conference.

Idaho State hosts Eastern Washington on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Reed Gym.

POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State returns to conference play as it plays its final two regular season home games this week, beginning Thursday, Feb. 23 vs. Eastern Washington and Saturday, Feb. 25 vs. Sacramento State. Both games are at 7 p.m. and will be played in Reed Gym. Jerry Miller and Brad Bugger will call the action on 930 KSEI.

Eastern Washington leads the overall series 34-27. ISU has dropped the last three meetings with the Bengals last win being a 80-74 victory on Jan. 22, 2010 in Pocatello. Idaho State's last win at Eastern Washington was a 65-63 victory on March 1, 2003.

Eastern Washington is 12-15 and 6-7 in Big Sky play. EWU is led by the play of Colin Chiverton at 16.1 points a game. He is scoring 13.2 in league play. Cliff Colimon is scoring 15.2 points overall and 16.8 in conference. Eastern Washington is shooting .406 from the field and averaging 72.3 points a game.

Bengals in the Tournament
The Idaho State men's basketball team has clinched a spot in the Big Sky Tournament for the first time since the 2008-09 season. Idaho State is currently 7-6 and in a tie for third place with Portland State. In 2008-09, the Bengals finished 9-7 in conference, in fourth place and beat Northern Colorado 67-60 in the quarterfinals before losing to Portland State 61-53 in the semi-finals.

Conference Tournament Seeding up for Grabs
Seeding for the conference tournament could come down to the final regular season game. Idaho State can finish as high as third or as low as sixth. Portland State, Eastern Washington, Montana State and Northern Colorado are all in the race for the final three spots in the tournament. The tournament will either be held in Missoula or Ogden.

Career Nights in Flagstaff
Kenny McGowen scored a career-high 37 points in the Bengals win at Northern Arizona. Sherrod Baldwin also posted a career-high 13 points in a career-best 34 minutes in the victory.

Mcgowen Clutch Down Stretch
A key player in the Bengals successful run in conference play has been Kenny McGowen.  Before his career-high 37 points at NAU he had 30 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the 3-point line in the overtime win at Montana State. He has scored the game-winning baskets in the wins at Sacramento State and Montana State and hit the buzzer-beating 3-pointer at home vs. Weber State.  In the last five minutes of games this year he is shooting .541 percent, .429 percent from the 3-point line and .853 percent from the free throw line.

Scoring Punch
Kenny McGowen, Chase Grabau and Melvin Morgan are averaging 38.9 points a game of the teams 65.2 points a game. In the 99-94 double overtime win over Northern Colorado the three combined for 70 of the Bengals 99 points.
