Bengals Host Sacramento State on Senior Night

Idaho State plays its final home game of the 2011-12 season on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. in Reed Gym. Jerry Miller and Brad Bugger will call the action on 930 KSEI. The Bengals are currently tied for fourth place in the Big Sky Conference with Eastern Washington.

Idaho State leads the overall series 25-13 with the two teams splitting the season series last year. The Bengals won 68-63 in overtime in Pocatello and lost 74-63 in Sacramento last year.Earlier in the year Idaho State rallied from 22 points down in the second half to beat the Hornets in Sacramento, 68-67, thanks to a four-point play by Kenny McGowen with eight seconds left in regulation.

Sacramento State is 9-18 and 4-11 in Big Sky play. John Dickson leads the Hornets in scoring at 12.4 points a game while Joe Eberhard is scoring 11 points and averaging 5.9 rebounds. Sacramento State is averaging 66.9 points a game and shooting .450 percent from the field.

Saturday is the final home game for Chase Grabau, Abner Moreira and Kenny McGowen. All three are two-year Bengals and they have been leaders on and off the court. McGowen averaged 11.4 points and played in 56 games during his career, starting 35. Moreira averaged six points and 6.9 rebounds in 30.4 minutes for his career while Grabau averaged 9.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, shot .494 percent from the field. He also had 138 assists and 87 steals in his two years while playing in 53 games, starting 52.

Bengals in the Tournament
The Idaho State men's basketball team has clinched a spot in the Big Sky Tournament for the first time since the 2008-09 season. Idaho State is currently 7-7 and in a tie for fourth place with Eastern Washington. In 2008-09, the Bengals finished 9-7 in conference, in fourth place and beat Northern Colorado 67-60 in the quarterfinals before losing to Portland State 61-53 in the semi-finals.

Conference Tournament Seeding up for Grabs
Five schools have clinched berths for the 2012 conference tournament. The only seed up for grabs is the No. 6 spot. That will either go to Northern Colorado or Montana State. Seeds three, four and five will be decided between Eastern Washington, Portland State and Idaho State.

Hatchett up a Career Night
Andre Hatchett had a career-high 17 points and nine rebounds in 39 minutes of play on Thursday against Eastern Washington. Hatchett was 6-for-11 from the field. He is coming off a game where he played a career-high 45 minutes at Pacific.

Finishing Strong
Idaho State is 5-4 in its last nine games. During that stretch Andre Hatchett is scoring 9.6 points a game, averaging 6.1 rebounds and playing 36.1 minutes a contest. Kenny McGowen is averaging 17.9 points, Chase Grabau 15.1 points and Melvin Morgan 14.1 points a game during the nine-game stretch. The Bengal starting five is playing at least 32 minutes a game and the team is scoring 71.4 points a contest.
