SALT LAKE CITY – The Idaho State men fell to Utah Saturday evening 7-0. The Bengals are now 1-4 on the 2012 season while Utah improves to 4-0.
In doubles action,
Nate Gross and
Dan Buckingham had a tight match with Utah's Matias and Mamedov at the No. 2 spot, losing the contest by just one point (8-7).
“Nate and Dan played very well today,” ISU Head Coach
Bobby Goeltz said. “They are definitely the most comfortable doubles team we have right now so it will be interesting to see how they play tomorrow.”
Utah swept the singles action, but the Bengals did not go down without a fight with
Austin Miller and Utah's Davidian battling to a 7-5, 6-4 decision at the No. 5 spot. Buckingham and
Dakota Pate both took their second sets to 7-5 at the No. 4 and No. 6 spots respectively.
“We competed where we could,” Goeltz said. “We had some closer matches today than we did yesterday but Utah and BYU are very good teams. It all comes down to conference play, starting tomorrow.”
Idaho State returns to Pocatello, Sunday Feb. 5 to host Portland State in the first conference match-up of the season. The contest will be held in Reed Gym and begins at 11 a.m.
