ISU Tennis Preps for Final Home Matches this Week

The Bengals host Montana State, Montana this weekend

The Idaho State tennis teams return to Pocatello this week for their final home matches of the season.
MATCH NOTES

ABOUT IDAHO STATE

The Idaho State women face Southern Utah Tuesday, March 27 in Cedar City, Utah at 2 p.m. Then both teams return to Pocatello for the final home matches of the season. The men face Montana State Friday at 1 p.m. and Montana at 11 a.m. Saturday. The women take on Montana State at 9 a.m. Friday.

The ISU women own a 3-9 overall record and a BSC record of 1-4 after playing in four matches in the Las Vegas tournament. The Bengal men are currently 6-8 overall and 3-1 in the Big Sky, most recently defeating Seattle and Western New Mexico in Las Vegas.

BENGAL MEN STANDOUTS
Freshman Kryzystof Stempien has earned a singles record of 8-6 at the No. 2-4 positions while also recording a 6-8 record in doubles at the No. 3 position. Junior Nate Gross holds a 7-7 singles record at the No. 2-3 positions and leads the team with senior Dan Buckingham in doubles with a 8-6 record at the No. 2 position. Freshman Austin Miller has also done well, earning a 6-6 singles record at the No. 5-6 positions and a 2-8 doubles record at the No. 1 and 3 positions.

BENGAL WOMEN TO WATCH
The Bengal women return six players from last year's team including seniors Katharina Marsela, Laura Porras and Rilee Moorhead. Porras currently has a singles record of 5-6 at the No. 2 position and a doubles record of 2-10 at the No. 1 position with fellow senior Marsela. Moorhead has a singles record of 2-10 at the No. 3 position and a doubles record of 3-9 at the No. 2 position with freshman Marian Tangarife. Tangarife has also been doing well this season, earning a singles record of 3-9 at the No. 4 position.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
The Bengal men's and women's tennis team house eight international students from several different countries. On the men's team there is junior Charles Norman  from South Africa, freshman Andres Coello from Ecuador and freshman Krzysztof Stempien from Poland. The women's team includes three players from Colombia (Laura Porras, Marian Tangarife and Zamaria Vasquez), Laura Severino from Brazil and Katharina Marsela from Indonesia.

ABOUT SOUTHERN UTAH WOMEN
The Bengals are 3-2 against the Thunderbirds and are currently on a one-match losing streak. The last win against SUU for the women came on April 9, 2007 in a 4-3 victory in Cedar City. The Thunderbirds are currently 6-7 on the season.

ABOUT MONTANA STATE WOMEN
Idaho State is 1-8 overall against the Bobcats and are currently on an eight-match losing streak. ISU's last win against MSU came on Feb. 7, 2003 in a 4-3 victory in Boise, Idaho. The Bobcats are currently 3-6 and 1-0 in Big Sky play with a 7-0 win over Portland State.

ABOUT MONTANA STATE MEN
The Idaho State men are 1-11 against the Bobcats and are currently on an 11-match losing streak. ISU's last victory against MSU came on April 26, 2003 in a 4-1 victory at the Big Sky Conference Tournament in Portland, Ore. ISU dropped a 6-1 decision in the last meeting between the two schools on April 8, 2011. The Bobcats are currently 7-7 and 3-0 in conference action.

ABOUT MONTANA MEN
The Bengals are 4-9 against the Griz and are currently on a eight-match losing streak. The last win for ISU against UM came on March 27, 2006 with a 5-2 win in Pocatello, Idaho. ISU dropped a close 4-3 decision earlier this season to Montana with Charles Norman, Nate Gross and Krzyszstof Stempien earning singles victories in the match. Montana is currently 7-4 overall and 2-0 in Big Sky play.

WOMEN DEFEAT TWO BSC TEAMS FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 03-04 SEASON
With its wins over Weber State and Portland State earlier this season, the women's tennis team has defeated two Big Sky teams for the first time in eight years. The Bengals defeated the Wildcats 5-2 and the Vikings 4-3 to boost their overall record to 2-3.
