MATCH NOTES
ABOUT IDAHO STATE
The Idaho State women's and men's tennis teams will go on the road this week to finish up the regular season. The women will head to Ogden, Utah to face the Wildcats of Weber State. The ISU women are 4-12 overall and 1-6 in conference play this season. The Bengals most recently lost to the Utah State Aggies last Tuesday in a 7-0 decision.
The men head to Logan, Utah to match up against the Utah State Aggies. The men are 7-101overall and 4-4 in Big Sky play after dropping a 6-1 match to Sacramento State.
BENGAL MEN STANDOUTS
Four Bengals have shown real promise throughout this season. Junior
Nate Gross has managed a 9-9 singles record at the No. 2-3 positions as well as a 10-8 doubles record with senior
Dan Buckingham. Freshmen
Andres Coello,
Austin Miller and Krzyzstof Stempien have also done very well this season. Coello has an 8-4 singles record at the No. 5-6 positions and Miller is 8-8 at the No. 5-6 positions. Stempien is currently leading the Bengals in singles with an 12-6 record at the No. 2-4 positions; he is also 7-10 in doubles at the No. 3 position.
BENGAL WOMEN TO WATCH
Bengal senior
Laura Porras has been a true leader this season, managing a 7-7 singles record at the No. 2 position.
Marian Tangarife and
Zamira Vasquez are two underclassmen who have also proven themselves this season. Tangarife is 5-11 in singles play at the No. 3-4 position and 6-10 in doubles at the No. 2 position with senior
Rilee Moorhead. Vasquez is currently 5-8 in singles at the No. 4-6 positions.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
The Bengal men's and women's tennis team house eight international students from several different countries. On the men's team there is junior
Charles Norman from South Africa, freshman
Andres Coello from Ecuador and freshman Krzyzstof Stempien from Poland. The women's team includes three players from Colombia (
Laura Porras,
Marian Tangarife and Zamaria Vasquez),
Laura Severino from Brazil and
Katharina Marsela from Indonesia.
ABOUT WEBER STATE
The match on Monday will also be Weber State's last of the regular season. The Wilcats have gone 1-19 overall this season and are 1-5 in Big Sky match ups. WSU leads the series between the two programs at 17-3. The last time the two teams met was in February and resulted in a 5-2 win for the Bengals.
ABOUT UTAH STATE
The Aggies are currently 4-9 overall after most recently falling to Fresno State in a 7-0 decision. Utah State leads the series between the Aggies and the Bengals at 12-8. ISU last played USU at home in January in a match that resulted in a 6-1 victory for Idaho State.
MEN ARE CURRENTLY RANKED FIFTH IN BIG SKY
With a 4-4 conference record, the Idaho State men's tennis team is currently fifth in the Big Sky Conference. The men were was tabbed to finish seventh in the Big Sky preseason poll ahead of Portland State (18) and Northern Colorado (9). The Bengals finished eighth in the conference last season with a Big Sky record of 1-7. Montana's team is first in the conference right now as they are undefeated in BSC play.
WOMEN ARE CURRENTLY SEVENTH IN BIG SKY
With a 1-6 conference record, the ISU women's tennis team is currently seventh in the Big Sky. The women were selected to finish ninth in the Big Sky preseason poll. The women finished ninth in the conference last season with an 0-8 record. The Hornets of Sacramento State are leading the conference and are undefeated in BSC play.
