LOGAN, Utah – The Idaho State Bengals defeated Utah State 4-3 Wednesday afternoon in the final match of the 2012 season. With a win against the Aggies earlier this season, it is the first time ISU has swept Utah State since 2006. It is also ISU's first away win this season.
Idaho State swept doubles competition. Junior
Charles Norman and senior
Dakota Pate defeated Sven Poslusny and Marcus Fritz 8-5 at the No. 1 spot, marking the first win of the season for the duo.
Senior
Dan Buckingham and junior
Nate Gross improved their doubles records to 11-8 as they defeated Andrew Whiting and Lenny Whiting 8-6 at No. 2 doubles.
Freshmen
Andres Coello and
Krzysztof Stempien defeated Nate Ballam and Brandon Nielsen 8-6 at the No. 3 doubles.
Gross went on to win in singles action, defeating L. Whiting, 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot. Gross finishes the 2012 season with a 9-10 record.
Buckingham also notched a singles win in his final match as a Bengal, defeating Curran Wearmouth 7-6, 1-6, 6-3. Buckingham improved to 3-15 on the season.
Coello won the match for ISU with a win over Nielsen. Coello won the first set 6-2 and dropped the second set 5-7. The third set was extremely close as Coello won the set 7-6 after winning the tiebreaker 13-11. Coello finishes his first season at ISU with a 9-4 singles record.
Overall, ISU improved to 8-11 on the season, marking the most wins in a single season since the 2005-06 season.
