POCATELLO, Idaho- After Idaho State swept day one of the four-game series against Utah Valley University by winning on a walk-off homerun in the seventh inning on Saturday, the roles were reversed on Sunday as Amanda Perez hit a walk-off homerun for UVU in the eighth inning to lift the Wolverines to 4-2 game 2 victory and a series split with ISU. Utah Valley also defeated Idaho State 3-2 in game 1 on Sunday.
The Bengals end the 2012 season with a 12-36 record and a 7-13 mark in Pacific Coast Softball Conference play while Utah Valley improved to 29-22-1 and 10-10 in league.
The Bengals had 13 hits on the day in the two games but left a combined 15 runners on base.
Amanda Fitzsimmons was 4-for-4 at the plate with two homeruns, two RBIs, one walk and was hit by pitches twice. Fitzsimmons took both losses on the day as she tossed 7.2 innings and allowed eight hits while striking out 10.
In the first game, Utah Valley led 2-0 after three innings. ISU rallied with a Fitzsimmons homerun in the fourth and in the sixth Breakwell led off with a solo-homerun to tie the game. UVU scored the winning run in the sixth inning when Jamie North RBI singled home Krystin Jachim with two outs.
In the second game, Idaho State led 2-0 after five innings. The Bengals scored in the third inning on another solo-homerun by Fitzsimmons and the fifth inning run came on an RBI single by
Gabby Lopez, who platted Fitzsimmons after she reached base by being hit by a pitch.
Perez hit her first-homerun of the game on a two-run shot in the sixth to tie the game and followed with another two-run shot in the eighth to win the contest.
Christina Rayner started game 2 and pitched 5.1 innings, striking out five, allowing four hits and two runs while walking four.
